Good stuff. Check out the following link. It addresses this problem
with some really nice POSIX extensions for Linux.

Realtime Linux (POSIX.4 type or "soft" realtime)

http://hegel.ittc.ukans.edu/projects/posix/time.html

There is also the hard real-time linux.

The url is maybe
http://rtlinux.cs.nmt.edu/~rtlinux
or
http://www.rtlinux.org

( I say "maybe" because the link is misbehaving tonight.)

This is probably not what you want, but it also is very cool stuff.

well, one of the problems is the intel memory model will punish you
hard for using 10 byte variables. they do not fit cleanly on 8 byte
boundaries.

maybe. it's just that the intel x86 suffers from a number of
problems. the register starvation of the integer side is another
hindrance.

i've used many intel chips over a number of years. i am not impressed
with the architechture. they are innexpensive and ubiquitous. the
performance is reasonably good, since intel has a lot of money they
can throw at improving it.

You do need a digital interface in between the modem and the receiving
end. Typically, an ISP can offer this; the "fast" part of the connection
is the way from the ISP to the modem. The opposite direction, however
is limited to the max throughput of an analog line.

When I try to mkfs.ext2 onto any partition beyond the first 2GB of disk, it
reports warning : ... short write ( ie. could not write all the data asked
for ).

I've read linux/Documentation/ide.txt, but that only comments on problems with
LILO and other OSes.

fdisk and cfdisk both report the whole disk is present without any expert user
fudging.

The disk is an IBM DTTA 371440(PM) in a dell system. I looked into the
documentation and shone a flashlight on the motherboard, but I can't identify
the ide controller chip.

I'm running the Linux 2.2.2 kernel on either a Debian 2.0 or Redhat 5.1 (tried
both). I'm using e2fsprogs-1.10.

I'm grateful for any help / pointers /suggestions

Thanks.

That's the way V90 works. You can't have a 56K connection
from modem to modem; you'll need to go through an ISP
dialup connection to get anything better than plain 33.6K
on an analog line.

Hi,

Ive problems with my iomega zip drive.

1. It dont work whit the ppa-driver (its a 100MB parallel port, but its new

2. I compiled a new kernel (2.2.1) whit scsi-support as module, parallel port
also as module, with imm support - as module.

3. When I load the imm-driver many messages appear in /var/log/messages -> look
pasted text folowing this lines. The scsi host (iomega parallel) is detected.
