Sorry if my question disturb you !
I'm searching for an X25 / Frame-Relay PC Card vendor with an IP software
Driver in order for routing IP stack over Wan connexion (ISDN X25 or
Frame-Relay).
Is it exist ?
What is the PC Card's manufactufer ?
Are the software drivers free ?
Do you believe in a Software Router like that ? Is it a competitive offer
(vs CISCO or 3COM) ?
Thank's to give us/me your suggestions / remarks
Kind Regards

The original poster has provided conflicting information.
He says he has RH5.2 installed but his kernel version is
2.0.32.
RH5.2 is shipped with kernel version 2.0.36, which is
compatible with FAT32. Kernel 2.0.32 is NOT compatible
with FAT32.

What Linux drivers? The only drivers Linux has are those inside
Ghostscript (plus a few filters like pbm2ppa).
I think the latest Red Hat printtool and rhs-printfilters support the
Ghostscript uniprint drivers. I know the latest apsfilter does.
Failing that, read the Printing HOWTO and Ghostscript's Uniprint
documentation.

No, it isn't. Not to the other modems anyway. That
speed is the connection from your computer to your modem, nothing more.
Why that number shows up, I don't know, but it does.

That is plain wrong. FAT32 support for Linux was available just a couple of
weeks after Win95 OSR2 was released (which was 2 years ago).

find the FCC ID or registration number that is printed on the modem card
and check this list:

If your modem is not listed, please follow-up with the FCC number-- most

I' trying to set up PPP and I know these questions come up often so I'll be
concise:
1. My server uses PAP
2. It is (they say) a Linux Server
3. When I dial in through minicom I get a welcome message and "System
Password:" prompt
4. I set up my /etc/resolv.conf like this:
domain intersatx.net
nameserver 207.235.95.4
nameserver 207.235.95.5
5. I set up /etc/host.conf like this:
order hosts,bind
multi on
6. My /etc/ppp/pap-secrets:
# Secrets for authentication using PAP
# client server secret IP

<my username> * <my password>
7. My /etc/ppp/options:
-detach
modem
lock
crtscts
defaultroute
asyncmap 0
mtu 552
mru 552

8. This is what I get when I leave minicom without resseting and when I run
pppd -d -detach /dev/ttyS0 115200 &
ifconfig

Stick with external they are easier to support. If you do get
internal stick with NON-PLUG&PLAY types with plenty of jumpers for

Subject: Audiotrix Pro: anyone using this card under Linux?
Date: Fri, 12 Mar 1999 12:28:39 -0400
Hello,
I have a Mediatrix Audiotrix Pro sound card and I'm trying to get it
working with my Linux installation (Caldera OpenLinux 1.3), so far without
success. I tried recompiling the kernel using the "old" sound cofiguration
method (via "make menuconfig" or "make config") which is apparently required
for the Audiotrix Pro, but neither aproach worked: the former refused to use
the old method at all and the latter caused compilation errors in the sound
drivers.
I even tried using pre-compiled sound modules (as suggested on Caldera's
website) but that caused errors as well.
Is anyone out there successfully using an Audiotrix Pro under Linux? If
so, how did you get it working? I'd appreciate hearing all the nasty little
details.
Thanks,
Adrian Cook

Has anyone already tried this out?

Just open /dev/ttySx and read from it or write to it! Linux takes care of
the rest. There are some ioctls for setting comm parameters too I think,
but again you can use setserial or stty to do that. If something is
spitting bytes down your serial port, just do a cat /dev/ttySx (x = the
serial port number) and watch! (try cat /dev/ttyS0 with a serial mouse on
that com port (and no X or GPM running) and you should see a pile of crap
- the raw characters sent by the mouse - every time you move it or press
a button).

First, are you using a WINMODEM? If so, give it up to charity, it's not
going to work with Linux. WINMODEMs (per the name) implements a ton of
funcitonality in Windows code. Nice, huh, for Microsoft and Intel, but bad
for Linux users. If you're using one of these, you'll need to find one that
doesn't require Windoze 95/98 for operation.
Second, look at the "statserial" command via the man pages (man statserial).
This will let you know if Linux is seeing the modem.
If you need other info/links, I've got a portal site at http://www.emuse.net
that I compiled to help me in my day-to-day work with Linux.
Good luck,
Randy

Been there myself, as of about a week ago. The
3c509 driver doesn't want the "io=", though
it will take the "irq=" specification.
Despite comments in various HOWTOs about the
fact that ISA NIC drivers generally don't probe
for NICs automatically, the 3c509b driver
does.
Perhaps because the card comes in a PCI model
as well??? I dunno.
Anyway, in my system I have two 3c509b cards
configured at I/O address 300 and 310, IRQs
10 and 11 respectively.
My module configuration file simply contains:
alias eth0 3c509
alias eth1 3c509
and nothing else, and the kernal finds them both.
How do I know? If it didn't, I wouldn't be typing
to you right now, since I'm typing this on a
Win98 box using ip masquerading to talk through
the Linux box over my DSL router.

I betcha if you do a "cat /proc/ioports" or a "cat /proc/interrupts"
you won't see the 3c509b card, though :)

You can set termination manually in the driver:
in aic7xxx.c, set aic_7xxx_override_term = 0x03.
At least, it removes the warnings!
I'll do some stress tests to see if any timeouts still come up.
