I used the Epson Stylus Driver I believe in the RH 5.2 installation and
it was setup in there to use lp0 but I had to end up changing it to lp1
which I found that out by accident. I guess maybe b/c it was being
passed thru my zip for it to use lp1 instead but that didntmake a
difference in WIndows. But doing that it prints just fine. I printed a
test page from the printer config in Control Panel from X and it did
just fine. Haven't tried any actual documents from Wordperfect or
anything though.

Believe it or not, one of the best implementations of this that I've seen is
in the NT command line. TAB will take you to the next match, SHIFT+TAB will
take you back a match...
Mind you, you do have to mess with the registry to turn it on (apparently,
the feature wasn't fully completed or somesuch -- but it seems to work fine
for me):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\CompletionChar = 0x09
ps. You can put any character you want as the CompletionChar; I just use TAB
as it's the same as Unix.

Probably not for command line progs... as the command line switches are
usually hard-coded in someone's main(). So it'll always look for the / as
the introducer.
However, usually it won't mind if you type them in as '/'s in dialogs and
such... it handles them quite happily.

Subject: Multiuser LInux for programming courses?
Date: 20 Apr 1999 16:17:59 GMT
At present, we run a programming course using X logins to a large Sun system
run by the college. That system gets overloaded (hundreds of users!), and I'm
thinking about alternatives.
Does anyone out there run elementary programming courses on a linux system
running multi-user (at peak 40-50 users logged in via X doing trivial
beginner-level programming)? If so, what sort of hardware is needed? Can it be
done with a generic PC (twin P2/ UWSCSI/ lots of RAM) or a small farm of
lesser PCs?
(Other options involving 1-user PC workstations exist, but going this route
would mean that the students would be restricted to a small subset of the
available workstations, all of which have only X emulation in common)
TIA, Nigel.

Hello anybody,
I'm looking for a hardware-accelerated OpenGL for LINUX
SuSE 6.0/6.1.
The supported graphics card should be an Elsa Gloria Synergy
or another board with Per media 2 chip set. However, I could
use another chip set (VOODOO) if necessary.
- Where can I get a corresponding OpenGL implementation?
(commercial or free, does MESA support HW?)
- Do I need special X servers (commercial or free)?
[In case of commercial tools, German distributors are preferred.]
Please respond by email to:

I will post a summary if necessary.
Thank you very much in advance.

I would like to be able to transfer files between a PC (under Linux) and a Sun
Sparc10 (Also Linux) between work and home whilst preserving long filenames,
permissions etc.
Has anyone done that with a SCSI Zip drive, or does anyone know if it is
possible? If so, can an external scsi zip use the standard SCSI port on the
back of a Sparc10 or do you need an adaptor, or do you need a special plugin
card for the Sun? I haven't bought a Zip drive yet, so I need to know if I
should get an internal SCSI zip or an external one, or should I get something
else?
(At the moment I don't have a SCSI card for the PC, but I will probably buy
one of the Iomega SCSI cards they produce, unless someone has had some
experience with them that should suggest otherwise.)
Thanks,
Andrew

Dear group members,
I'm considering buying a Fujitsu magneto-optical disk with a SCSI
interface for my Linux PC. How about it's compatibility with
Linux (I now have kernel v. 2.2.5).
For a 640MB MO drive the questions seem to be:
(a) should I choose a SCSI or an IDE version,
(b) any problems with the sector size (I'm not sure if the 640MB
disks are 512B or 2048B per sector),
(c) what is the quality of handling of this type of removable media.

Hi,
I am told that a Terminal Adapter (TA) for ISDN is the way to go with
NT due to
the time delays associated with RAS and dial up networking.
But Linux is much better written. Does it make any sense to use a TA
with Linux?
Or is this a quality problem only associated with Windows products?
Is there a such thing as an internal PCI ISDN adapter that is Linux
friendly?
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,

Hey all,
Anyone actually done what is written up in the Linux Coffee HOW-TO?
I'm dieing to try this... I would appreciate some feedback on how
easy/hard it is to get the correct parallel port pins to go high
after appropriate software calls... If someone could point me to some
source code that'd be great.
Basically, I want to feed off of a parallel pin's +5V data HI signal
to trigger a relay which will in turn power-on a coffee machine. After
a given time interval (~4 minutes), the pin should be set to LOW to turn
off the relay, and hence power down the coffee machine.
Source code with accompanying pin diagrams would be really helpful!
Thanks,
Mike

Hi there, I'm having trouble with an ATI mach 64 VT.
The problem is 1: the card doesn't auto probe.
2. When I start X the ( 2-button PS/2 Genius Easy mouse ) mouse goes all

moving the mouse has the effect of clicking a mouse button in that a

I'd be really grateful if anyone could point me towards any resources

Is there a general problem with ATI and linux, I have an old s3 that I'm

Subject: Re: problem with X and ATI Rage Magnum (Rage 128 GL AGP)
Date: 22 Apr 1999 05:32:19 GMT
Uhmmm no, the ATI Rage Magnum and Fury both use the Rage 128 GL chipset.
It should be noted that the Riva TNT and the Rage 128 chipsets come from
different companies (i.e competitors ;).
As far as I know, there are no 'public domain' drivers for the Rage Magnum
or the Rage Fury as of yet. There are some commercial X servers (such as
the one from Xigraphics) that seem to work quite well according to some
ppl. You can download a demo on their webpage, http://www.xigraphics.com.
You can also try to setup the frame buffer X server and use it until Xfree
comes out with a version of their server that supports the Rage 128 chipset
. I have written a page with instructions on how to set it up (I have the
Rage Magnum), and you can find it at
http://www.0wned.org/~cain/ragefury.htm .
The original version of that page (geared more towards RedHat users) is
located at http://ruff.cs.jmu.edu/~beetle/ragefury.htm , and it was written
by Don "Beetle" Bailey.

looking into APC but i'm confused as to whether i have to purchase their
software separately. I'm also confused a little with the best power products
too. I've found the ups howto, but it seems outdated.
