There's a patch for hardware accelerated mesa for the permedia II at
http://www.suse.de/~sim/
I've tested the patch and it works quite nice, but it's still in the alpha
stage. You *might* be better off waiting for the commercial implementations
from Metrolink <http://www.metrolink.com/> og XiG <<http://www.xig.com/>.

Greg, I've got a modem that gives me the same results for /proc/pci. It's a
TAICOM MR56. I found their web site (http://www.taicom.com.tw).
Unfortunately the info on there says that it is implemented using Rockwell
HCF. Which from everything that I have read so far seems to indicate it is a
"winmodem" or a "softmodem".
I haven't given up yet though, I sent an e-mail to their tech support
asking if it could be used with other OS's or if they could supply me with
info on the commands/addresses needed to configure it on the PCI bus.
Using the pciutils lspci and setpci I have been able to change the
interrupt used by the modem but I can't seem to be able to change the IO port
assignment. lspci appears to list it's IO port as being 0x0000 and this is
either from a cold boot or a warm boot after initialising it in Windows.
However my knowledge of PCI bus commands, registers etc. is *extremely*
limited!
If I have any luck I'll let you know.
Troy Dack.

Subject: Problem mounting HFS filesystem
Date: Thu, 22 Apr 1999 12:00:25 +0200
Hi,
I am a rather new member of the linux community and at the
moment I am "fighting" a filesytem problem.
I am using the linux-2.2.5 kernel. This is because I used to work
mainly on a macintosh and I urgently need to be able to read the
data I stored with my mac. The filesystem I use with my mac
is hfs (not hfs+) and with the linux-2.2.5 kernel it is posible to
mount (using the "mount" command) all my external SCSCI devices
using a hfs-filesystem.
I can mount hfs-ZIPs, hfs-CDs, hfs-floppys ... it only doesnt work
with the hfs-MOs (Magneto Optical Disks).
I can mount all the MO media on which I put a vfat-filesystem,
it just doesnt work with hfs.
I assume that the problem is somehow connected to the fact that I am
using MO-cartridges with 1024 byte/sector (650MB capacity on each side).
This doesnt seem to be problem with vfat but with hfs.
Does somebody know the problem ? Or can somebody tell me where I can
get usable information from ?
Thanks
Frank

Subject: IDT Winchip and Linux? Doesn't work?
Date: Thu, 22 Apr 1999 10:55:43 +0200
Hi,
I have tried to upgrade an old PC (Gigabyte HX Mainboard, Cyrix
P150+ CPU) with an IDT Winchip 225. On the first look, it seemed
to be an ideal upgrade for older socket 7 boards: Pentium
compatible, both MMX and 3Dnow! support, really cheap.
On the second look, it showed a good performance boost under
Windows (yuk!), reaching a Pentium rating of 241 at 3,5x60
(3,5x66 didn't work, 3,0x60 is slower). The dip switches had to
be to 1,5x60, which is interpreted as 3,5 by the IDT Winchip.
Encouraged, I tried to boot Linux. However, both SuSE 4.4
and SuSE 6.0 failed directly after loading the kernel from
FD. Since both the Cyrix and the IDT Winchip CPU claim to
be compatible to the Pentium, I see no obvious cause for
this problem. Has anybody tried to run Linux with an IDT
Winchip and succeeded? If yes, what problems did you
encounter and how did you solve them? Anything that needs
to be patched an/or recompiled?

We're having a few problems getting a 3Com 3c509b network card to work

are working. We've tried various kernels from 2.0.34 to 2.2.6 with no
luck. Does anyone have any ideas as to what we're doing wrong.

Hello Everybody,
I have an Artec 40x UDMA cdrom drive which I have returned twice to the
manufactorer. They say the drive is fine. The system I am installing in
has a Soyo 5eh mainboard w/ AMD K2-266. I dual boot Win98 & Redhat 5.2
(w/2.2.5). Under both OSes I have problems listening to CDs. I might get a
song or two before the song starts to stutter and then the player reads "no
disk".
I have tried disabling udma on the cdrom in the bios and setting the mode to
3. No difference. Under win98 I have tried the latest ETEQ and VIA drivers
as well as the standard dual PCI. Again, no difference.
I installed the drive in other machines which don't have udma and have the
same problem. One was a K5-166 w/win98 and the other is a P120 w/Redhat
5.2.
Any help? I'm about ready to just throw the drive on the shelf to collect
dust.
TIA,
Jeff Volckaert

SuSE really isn't running until you get to INIT. Before then, all
kernels are created more or less equal.

The mobile robot PC is installed Linux Redhat5.2, and we use matrox meteor

to transfer the continuous images from Linux PC through the Internet to the

Can anyone give me a general stratehgy to realize this? Some one suggests
to use Netmeeting software to transfer. Is that possible under linux?
Hope to get some good help from you.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
