I was excited to find the new TNT drivers released last night, but when
I downloaded the static glibc binary package, the riva_install script
did not work. I get an error at line 159, about an unexpected 'then'
statement. Anyway, I tried running the X server but it didn't work for
modes over 320x300 or whatever the builtin one is. What does the
riva_install script do, and what can I do manually to get my TNT2 card
running? Please send a copy of any replies to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
if possible. Thanks a lot.

This is no joke! I was pennyless in 1990, and then I learned C++ and Java,
and all of a sudden it all came together. All of a sudden, I had respect
for myself, and I was making $50,000 and more. The best part about it, is
that I didn't have to lower my dignity and annoy people with high IQs that
wouldn't fall this swindle anyway!

save
thousands of dollars in software licenses.
LinuxCAD features:
1. Complete creation of professional 2D drawings.
2. 3D modelling.
3. Printing to HPGL compatible plotters ,
4. Printing to DeskJet and LaserJet ,
5. Printing and export to Postscript
6. Printing to L i n u x C A D MS Windows based Print server.

Your in DOS page mode. You need to delete all references to the drivers in
your autoexec.bat and config.sys and that should do it. Let 98 install the
drivers. BTW> Are you using a disk management software? This is most
likely your culprit.

Nope. Had to do that for NT - load a video driver that was on the install CD,
load a sound driver that I had to get off the net. I never did get my sound
card to work in any attempt at Linux. And don't even get me started on my X
problems.
95? Everything worked right the first time.

So you'd rather redo the kernel to put in a device driver than reboot once to
load a PnP driver?

I was having the same frustration and looking all

driver which makes this DVD drive work. I am not

this at your own risk.
This was applied to the 2.2.8 kernel. It enables

I'm not an expert with modems but I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. The
problem was the phone lines. I'm on GTE and the wiring where I live was
noisy and did not support fast connections. When I called the phone company they told
me I needed catagory 5 wiring. (Sounds like 100baseT) Six months later
they made some changes at my home and I have not had any problems since. I normally
connect at 45300. I don't know about catagory 5, but whatever they
changed solved the problem.
Hope this helps!

Quite. There are in fact two free software 5700 drivers - one by
Henryk, which does 600dpi color, and one by Michael Taylor, which does
1200dpi black-only. Henryk's web page above now has a link to

Actually, Lexmark has provided a C program which does this from any
reasonable Unix box, Linux included. I distribute a copy of this

I have a similar problem with the ALI chipset. UDMA read operations
work perfectly, but write operations result in kernel error messages
and the driver gets kicked into PIO mode. I've emailed the authors,
but they're silent. I think the non-Intel UDMA drivers may not be

Actually, no. Henryk's web page says that he will eventually work on

I've corrected the entry in the database to have this information;
if a 900 file ever gets written, someone please let me know!
Does this printer respond to ieee parport probes? If so, could a
Linux 2.2 user tell me the contents of /proc/parport/0/autoprobe?
Adding this information to the database will help automate future
printer configuration programs.

/dev/hdb2 - / root partion i.e. everything else.

I am trying to setup my ZIP and CDRW ATAPI drives on a Redhat 2.0.36

I can get the ZIP working as an IDE device. My CDRW also works just fine
under WinNT (It's an HP8200). CDRW also is recognized as an IDE device
and I can even play music CDs on it.
Now I am trying to set them up as SCSI devices so that I can use this

I am first concentrating on the ZIP drive.
I have disabled CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEFLOPPY and have set
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDESCSI but I just can't get the system to recognize my
ZIP drive as a scsi device as instructed in this how-to page:
http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue28/lg_tips28.html#atapi
Please help. I remember being able to do it when I had kernel 2.0.34.
Did something change in 2.0.36 to disallow SCSI handling if ZIP drives?
What am I doing wrong?

Hi - I am a new to Linux and looking a practical way to partition my hard
disk. MY system is a s follows:
1.6 gig Win98 used for network game server
2.1 gig Linux disk.
Should I partition the Linux disk into several smaller ones for user etc...
or just a swap disk and one large partition.
Also Suse 6.1 gave me a warning about LILO having problems with partitions
with more than 1024 sectors.
Thanks!!
