Hi,
When you run Xconfigurator, you don't have to chose a curtain video card. You can
choose "Unsupported Card", go to the next screen and choose the SVGA server. I
have done this. This works, I have the same card.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I have serious problems getting my Adaptec AHA1510b isa PnP SCSI
controller to work under linux. I've tried several things, and have the
feeling I barked myself up a tree now... so any help sure is appreciated
:)
Under w1nd0z3, the card works fine and is reported to have IRQ 11, IO
0x340.
cat /proc/interrupts shows interrupt 11 as free.
cat /proc/ioports shows io 0x340 as free.
I'm running Debian GNU/Linux version 2.1 (potato) with kernel 2.2.9
The scsi card is the only reason for me to run M$ crap btw... so please
help me getting rid of it ;)
Thanks a lot in advance,
Arjan Drieman.
Here are my various attempts:
Attempted: Driver statically compiled into the kernel.
append="aha152x=0x340,11,7,1" in lilo.conf.
hardware switches on card active/inactive gives same result.
Result:
aha152x: processing commandline:
aha152x: <NULL>
aha152x: invalid line (controller=1)
ok
aha152x: BIOS test: passed, detected 1 controller(s)
aha152x0: vital data: PORTBASE=0x340, IRQ=11, SCSI ID=7,
reconnect=enabled, parity=enabled, synchronous=disabled, delay=100,
extended translation=disabled
aha152x: trying software interrupt, lost.
aha152x: IRQ 11 possibly wrong. Please verify.
scsi : 0 hosts.
scsi : detected total.
However, when I initialize it with isapnptools:
ADP1510/1467392874[0]{SCSI Controller }: Port 0x340; IRQ11 --- Enabled
OK
I have no clue what the stuff about invalid commandline is about and where
to correct that.
Attempted: Driver as module.
Initialization with isapnptools.
append="aha152x=0x340,11,7,1" in lilo.conf
aha152x in /etc/modules
hardware switches on card inactive/inactive gives same result
Result:
ADP1510/1467392874[0]{SCSI Controller }: Port 0x340; IRQ11 --- Enabled
OK
Calculating module dependencies... done.
Loading modules: aha152x scsi : 0 hosts.
/lib/modules/2.2.9/scsi/aha152x.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
After this, I get
isapnp: Device 'Creative SB AWE64 PnP'
isapnp: Device 'Adaptec AHA-1510B'
isapnp: 2 Plug & Play devices detected total
If I try to load it manually:
# insmod scsi_mod

Notsure about SuSE 6.0. I have 6.1 and there is a setup script in
/var/lib/apsfilter called SETUP that can be used to configure the .upp
drivers for ghostscript 5.1 (which is the default version on SuSE 6.1. I
have my printer setup for 720 x 720. Works fine. There are some things I
know I could do to imprve this but this seems to work fine. You also
have the ability to configure multiple drivers for this printer in the
setup program with multiple printer spools.
If you don't have this, you have to upgrade manually - a bitch to do.
I have used RedHat in the past. This setup had more software on CD than
any I've ever seen by default. I think newbee's should look at SuSE
first. If this doesn't help chack the SuSE website search engine. Lot's
of answers in there.

Resolution has a lot to do with printing speed. What type of picture at
what resolution. My sylus 600 prints a 720 x 720 full size (covers the
page) in about 10 minutes or less. It also has to do with the complexity
of the image and the type of driver you are using. -noweave is faster at
the cost of lines in the printout. 1440 x 720 takes almost an hour for
the same image. I think I could PAINT the image in that time. Try lower
resolution or a diferent driver.
I used to use the stcolor driver. With the uniprint driver I get better
images more slowly.
Good luck

the CD writing FAQ (http://www.guug.de/~winni/linux/cdr/html/CD-Writing-1.html)

WPI (Wearnes): CDRW-622, CDR-632P
Does anyone have an idea whether thsi CD writer is compatible with

Well, I haven't tried installing from tape, but you can most definately
do a network install, so you could setup the hpux machine as a TFTP
server to netboot the sparc, then install via FTP or NFS - I've done it
w/Redhat, don't know about Debian

I think *TWO* C300A PPGA + *TWO* Slotket cost more or less the same as
*ONE* P2-300, and is much cheaper than *ONE* P2-450, given most C300A
can be overclocked to 450MHz. (My pair of C300A PPGA are now running

Subject: Hardware RAID cabinet
Date: Wed, 9 Jun 1999 18:51:44 +0200
Hello, I've taken it upon myself to install a Linux server for a small
company, who have an Eurologic 5000 (don't remember the model exactly) with
3 built-in SCSI-controllers. For now, only a Sun (Solaris 2.6) and a Linux
(RH6.0 or Mandrake) box are connected.
The disks in the RAID-cabinet were already set up for the SUN, but when I
connected the Linux box I ran into some problems. To explain more details:
The Linux-box has an Adaptec 2944 Differential SCSI-adapter that is
connected to the RAID. Plop - it works, no problems reading (even writing
UFS worked for a while :)) Then I tried to make a part of the RAID (which is
split into 4 parts, 2x170Gb+2x70Gb) an ext2fs system. I tried
newfs -lotsaoptions /dev/sdb, and it warned me that this was an entire
device, not a partiton. So I go into fdisk, and try to make a partition
(probably bad idea). Nope, lots of errors: "Please reboot to ensure changes
have been made". So I reboot, and no partitions have been made. I then make
a filesystem on the entire /dev/sdb (one of the 70Gb parts), ignoring the
warnings. It works, until next reboot, after which I can't mount the disk.
Errors in filesystem etc.
Has anyone else had any problems with hardware RAID? Or maybe some tips
anyways?
Any help deeply appreciated, please send mail ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) because this
newsgroup moves too fast for me, when I finally have time to check the
message is no longer in the 300 newest (and VERY hard to find). If you by
any chance know why I have to reboot linux to see files that have been
copied to the UFS disks from the SUN, I'd be forever grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Kent R. Nilsen

Dear Jurriaan,
It has been along time since I had mine... But, here it goes.
There was 1 set of jumpers for the I/O address for the port (some had 2
ports and had 2 sets of these). The next set of jumpers was for the IRQ
settings for the ports. If I remember right this one was a 3 row header the
center and top where for 1 port and the center and bottom where for the
other port. You could not share an IRQ. The last thing each port had was a
jumber 3 position one side labled "Standard" or something like that. And
the other labeled something like "High Speed"... This is the one you are
looking for!
With it in standard or normal mode the Baud rates map 1 for 1. In the other
mode the Baud rates are remaped so certain baud rates get remapped to the
higher baud rates at the board level. I think the range is 75-1200 baud.
I will have to get back to you..... My brother may still have the
documentation.
Talk to you again,

The question is simple, the answer isn't. The answer will
vary depending on every specific piece of hardware. To
my knowledge, there is no standard or standard family
of interfaces across hardware devices.
A few hardware vendors (Parallax comes to mind) who
design hardware, then embed an OS into the hardware
which communicates via some communications protocol.
In this case, you write your app then make an external
call to control the hardware. If this is implemented
across an entire product family (as Parallax has done)
then you get a nice consistent manner of doing things.
Problem here is that this approach is not particularly
flexible, and potentially incurs signficant (and I
mean significant) overhead on the hardware device.
Here's an idea... if you live near a used bookstore,
look for one of the *really* old PC hardware books.
They tend to have short chapters on using x86 assembly.
That may be useful to you, just in terms of concept.
