Help me please
I have just installed RH6.0, and i own a video card S3 Trio 3D, it seems
that the Xconfigurator recognize the card, but when i start the X Server, it
starts only in 16-colours VGA mode
Indeed it is a bit frustrating, i tried to edit the XF86Config file, but it
seems that i found no way to force X to use the SVGA mode.
Ther'is another initialization file?
Moreover, the Clock of the card is bounded to 28.32Mhz !!! while i should go
up to 90!
Does anyone know how to solve mi problem???

Has anyone been successful in getting a TV tuner card to work under
linux...
According to...
http://www.komm.hdk-berlin.de/~rasca/xttv/ it's possible.
Specifically, I'm trying to get an STB TV PCI (which is listed as having
been reported as working). I've downloaded all the related stuff, and
it appears to almost have worked at one point (got a garbled graphic
image in the window).
When I run XTTV i vary between err messages ... unable to open
/dev/bttv0 (the tv tuner driver) or unable to open /dev/video (both are
phyiscally there).
My kernel should be compiled for modularization (to best of my
knowledge, any way to verify this)?
To respond, delete _nospam in my email adress (if it's there)

I found and installed the nvidia patch. My TNT2 works great, mind you
I still need to tweak the settings more but it does work. You need the
patch to make the card work right.

Which is supported better? A Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16 PCI or and
Ensoniq AudioPCI. Can the onboard midi sequencer/port be used on either of
these? Thanks.

The backpack driver on the 6.0 boot disk is bad. RedHat are aware of the
problem and are planning to release a new boot floppy. Check their
web site.

I am kinda new to the Linux thing... I am enjoying it and have learned a lot
just by reading the News Groups, so I figured i would ask away in here. I
am running RH 6 and I am having a modem problem. I have an old USR
Sportster 33,6 that has jumpers for Com and IRQ's. I have it set to IRQ5
(which is unused on computer) and Com1. Linux doesn't find it. I read
somewhere that some of the Sportster series isn't supported, mostly the ones
that have Voice, which mine does not. Any suggestions on getting this one to
work or can someone reccomend a inexpensive modem that is known to work with
Linux.
Thanks for any help in advance...

HI Alice,
I've a AVA1505, I don't succeed in make it work with ISAPNP.conf. So I've
added the module with kernelcfg. It' trivial, you have just to add an
hostadapter (type 1520, the driver is the same fot 1505, 1510, 1520) with
following option: 0x140, 11, 7 (your base address, the IRQ and the SCSI ID).
It should work fine.
Obviuosly, if u add a new component to your PC IRQ may change, and u must
change the options.

The standard SVGA driver I used (Slackware 4) understood RIVA TNT by itself.

Someone PLEASE HELP!!!
I've been trying to setup a web server utilizing Red Hat 6.0, Apache
Web Server, and Real Audio Basic Server (libc version) for the last two
weeks. Unfortunately after about 20-30 minutes of not being accessed by
anyone from the Net, I am unable to ping or gain access to any of my
network services remotely (HTTP, FTP, or Telnet). If I attempt to ping from
home, I get a request timed out. All network services work fine and can be
accessed by people on the Net until that 30~ minutes elapse. I can regain
access if I stop and then start the network again, but for only 30 minutes.
Our 3COM 595 Tx appears to work fine and reports no errors when we run
"ifconfig." We even checked with Redhat support and they confirmed it is a
"tier one" card. The network setup was checked by a few Linux wizards and
they said all looks good.
Nothing in the logs are recorded at the time we can't gain acces to the
services. People have checked them and couldn't find anything to indicate
a problem. I've surfed the Net fine with the machine, getting out isn't the
problem, it's getting in after a given amount of time.
We have disabled all APM services in the BIOS and removed the APM daemon
from Linux. There is nothing in the logs to indicated that HTTP, FTP, or
Telnet are going down. In fact they are still up, but cannot be accessed.
Our only log error is:
maul inetd[1769]: execv /usr/sbin/in.identd: No such file or directory
I'm running RH 6.0 on an Intel Celeron 400, w/128MB of Ram, 8.4G HD, and a
3COM 595 Tx NIC. It is a co-lo with on a T1 connection. Linux has been
reinstalled a number of times with different setups (Custom, Server, etc)
yet the same result. The swap and other partitions are all fine. We've
changed the NIC card three times! I even reinstalled it without the Real
Server installed and it still happens.
Any timely advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

I know it supports a 3.5x and 4.5x multiplier. I was asking if it
worked with EDO or FPM memory running at AGP frequency with those
multipliers. The other poster suggested that it only worked at
even multipliers like 3x and 4x with the non-PC100 memory.
Well, you could answer the question depending on what memory you have.
Do you have PC100 or older EDO or FPM and are you running it at front
side bus or AGP frequency?

The subject says it all.
I am working on a project for a BIG company and I want to persuade them to use
Linux instead of DOS for their PC104 embedded system if that is possible. The
hardware now has a 486 processor, 32 Mb RAM and a 32 Mb flash (SSD) disk. It
presently run DOS (so most of that RAM is wasted...)
Any information would be very helpful!

If you already are using SCSI HD device the tape device
should be located and identified when the system boots and
probes the SCSI bus. If the SCSI support is new, you will
have to compile the proper driver for your HBA (either in
the kernel or as a module) before you can use the tape
device.

Subject: DHCP in token ring
Date: Tue, 22 Jun 1999 10:56:01 GMT
Hi
I have some troubles setting up dhcpd on redhat 5.2 upgraded to kernel
2.2.10
The system contains two network adapters, on Ethernet connected to an
isdn router (eth0, 194.192.161.170) and one token ring adapter (tk0,
192.168.1.1). both adapters works fine.
I believe that it is the token ring adapter that gives problems. Do
anyone know about a DHCP Server that works on a token ring network.
The Internet Software Consortium who is distributing the DHCPd
2.0b1pl27 does mention that it may not work under some circumstances,
and the version 3.0 Alpha Does not work either.
If you believe that 2.0b1pl27 works with Token Ring, or do you know an
other DHCP server that works with token ring, please write.
Some techs:
The source was successfully compiled and installed from
dhcp-2.0b1pl27.tar
My /etc/dhcpd.conf file looks like this:
default-lease-time 600;
max-lease-time 7200;
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
option broadcast-address 192.168.1.255;
option routers 192.168.1.1;
option domain-name-servers 192.168.1.1;
option domain-name "blaa-sommer.dk";
subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 192.168.1.30 192.168.1.100;
}
Running dhcpd -f gives following output:

Why?
I don't want to setup any dhcp on eth0
I tried to disable the Ethernet adapter with ifdown eth0.
Then i got following output when running dhcpd:

keep the power button pressed for about 4 seconds, It will then turn the power
off. The new ATX power supplies usually can be switched off totally with a
separate switch (usually on the power supply.) If that switch is in the ON
position then the power supply is in a standby state ready to start again. So
as not to make possible to inadvertently turning off the computer a short
single press either does nothing (when the system is up ) or turns the system
on.
