I ran into a problem trying to set up ppp through linuxconf. It double quoted every
string in the chat script. For example;
'"ABORT"' '"Invalid login"'
As a result, I couldn't get ppp to connect. Once I took out the "s, it worked fine.
i.e. 'ABORT' 'Invalid login'
Antryg - I shoulda set it up manually anyway. ;)

Is there any way to monitor CPU temperature from within Linux? I have
a Gigabyte 6bxd motherboard and the bios supports CPU temperature
monitoring, but as far as I know there is no method for checking the
cpu temperature from bios once the OS is loaded up. Any clues? Is
there anything in /proc that I can check?

Use "modprobe ppa" instead. It will work. I added the line to the end of
my rc.local file then set up the mounts with "fsconfig" This worked very
nice.

If i remember what i've read in the newsgroups lately, HCF is basically a
winmodem. To get it to work, you must throw it out and buy a real modem, not
a "software" modem. Seriously. Cheap manufacturs instead of spending a few
cents to give you chips on the board insteasd made them into windoze drivers,
rendering them useless on ANY other os, and they will not tell anyone how to
write drivers for them. Nice huh?

Hi
I would like to know if it's possible to have a radio card install
with RH 6.0, and have the sound output going through the sound card.
I have a Zoltrix radio plus 108, but I'm not able to install it. It
work OK with windows NT. I tried to have info on how to configure
the cards, but I didn't found anythings.
So, is there any radio cards who could meet my request, and where could I
found a mini-HOWTO on radio cards.

My Compaq keyboard (just the plain one) would often lock up during boot. I

replaced it with another keyboard and the problem stopped.
I'd like to know of a fix, though...

1.Is there some sort of file manager or is everything command line operated?
2.When I install, I'll be wiping the Microsnot garbage off first, so I'll be cut off

4.What kind of programs work on Linux. Will some of my windows programs work, or must

I have an internal ATAPI ZIP drive, but when I try and mount the drive in
a similar method as mounting a floppy drive. When linux (Redhat 5.2)
loads up, it sees the ZIP drive under hdd
This is what I come up with when I try the mount:
[root@localhost /]# mount /dev/hdd -t vfat /mnt/zip
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdd (blah, blah,
blah)
I also tried this and came up with similar results.
[root@localhost /]# mount -t vfat /dev/hdd /mnt/zip
Am I doing something wrong in typing this, or do I need to install the zip
drive, and if so could someone give detailed instructions in how to do
this.

I have several linux boxen in my care. One runs headless 24/7 as a
server and I use another for interactive stuff. The latter machine
usually gets powered down if I go away for the weekend. Occasionally,
though, I find a need to get at something on this machine when I am
away from home and the machine is powered down.
This machine also has a fairly nice (if a little outdated) Intel
motherboard (integrated ethernet) which reminds me that it can "boot
on lan" every time it goes through the BIOS init. I got to thinking
this evening that it would be nice if I could power this machine up
remotely.
The owners manual makes mention of a "Magic Packet" and I have found a
number of dos/win apps to generate one, but no Linux appl. Does
anyone know if there exists a Magic Packet generator for Linux?

I have looked all over to try and find out how to fix that but the problem
