Ok I had the same problem in Kppp
try getting the dns server info from you ISP and load that in kppp its in
one of the tabs in the account setup
or load them into netconfig. if you cant find it
click the blue and white icon on the desktop called kappfinder
then open the kmenu (button in lower left coner like windows start button.)
hover over personal (>menu)
mandrake linux (>menu)
administration (>menu)
select network configuration (this should only show up if logged in as root)
click the name tab this is your list of dns name servers(I think)
you should have at least one set of number in the lower box.
get behind it hit enter to goto the next line and enter the dns name server
for you ISP.
the box up is for other domains for searching I log onto mindspring.com so
that is what I have to put in there your isp tech support should be able to
help you out. Also when you have this done hit the save button. This
worked for me. but it is still flakey. At time is won't respond. But when
I use it to proxy my win98 box the connection flies. Later

Most of the dead ones I have have no discernible scratches. They just
died. I find floppies die much quicker in public use machines, so very
fine scratches may be enough.

Are they Dysan? I have a collection of 360s that are totally useless,
but for a handful of Dysan disks. A number of 1.44 disks from 6-8 years
ago I have are reading bad, while a few read OK. Its a crap shoot.

I'd agree with this. Chuck the frequently used diskettes quite often,
they'll just be a nuisance to you otherwise.

Just use the mount command to get your windows partition working under
linux. First you'll have to create a directory for the files to be mounted
to, you can type in : mkdir /mnt/win
after that just type : mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/win
that's if your windows partition is C, which is most likely is. After that
just use it as any other directory, and copy the files into any linux
folder. Extract it and read everything carefully, its not that hard.

Maybe I should try to run NT to try to get some better error messages.
My favorite was on a DirectX install: "Error -14" with an "OK" button.

Yes, but I think it's the ALi/Aladdin 5 chipset, based on what I've heard
and trying to troubleshoot my problems, especially video problems on the
machine (only in windows98, not in linux, linux has been fine).

A lot of people have told me that ALi chipset motherboards with AMD cpus
and some graphics crads is a recipe for disaster... I've got a k6-3 400 on
a freetech p5f103 ALi (Aladdin 5) motherboard, and I've tried win98 with
two different voodoo3s, 3000 AGP and 2000 PCI, and still can't get rid of
the video problems. EverQuest is plagued with problems, haven't tried
StarCraft, have had some minor problems with X-Wing Alliance, too.
Of course linux runs fine.
Think I'm going to have to go with an EPoX motherborad (EP-MVP3G2 or MVP3G5)
eventually, because every time I've heard the story that suonds like mine,
when someone replaced the motherboard and either didn't use ALi or used an
ALi board that was known to work well, their problems went away. It's too
bad I didn't really hear about all these problems before ordering the
computer, but oh well.
The odd thing is, Gigabyte is on the AMD approved list, so you'd think
it'd work, but maybe AMD doesn't test them with nice video cards or
something.
Cheers for trying to make an anti-monopoly statement. :)

What are required for a java program to run in linux environment in this

How do I read and write to a printer port? What are involved in the

program can read and write to a printer port?
What is the relationship of the java program and the kernel to accomplish
that?

Hi,
I'm trying to install a large (20G) drive (IBM DJNA-352030).
RedHat 5.2, booting from CD-ROM.
When I go to partition, it asks if I want to use FDISK or Disk Druid.
Whichever I choose, I get a "install exited abnormally -- received
signal 8", and install terminates.
How can I get past this problem?
I don't think it's a bios problem; the messages that zoom by during the
boot-up report it as a 19470 meg drive.
TIA,
Gary.

I have a USB Zip and it has worked fine. As I recall, USB supports
something like 1.5 MB/sec of data transfer, so it's more than enough
for a standard CD-R, CD-RW, or zip. Since CD R/W only writes at maybe
4X, USB should be fast enough.
I'm considering buying a USB CDRW myself (Zip just isn't big enough
for backups, and CD RW media can be bought for as little as $2.50/US$
each).
Has anybody had any experience with CD R/W and USB? Especially in Linux?

There is an option when you compile the kernel that says something like
"Probe all LUNs for each SCSI ID" meaning that a drive with a single SCSI
ID and multiple LUNs such as your CD changer would require this.
You can always cat /proc/scsi/scsi and see if the drives are recognized.

Hey one quick addon I just thought about. If you are having trouble logging
on there is a check box in the set up account for ip and dns I think make
sure they are unchecked I think (right click on it for quick tips.) and if
you did anything with minicom or pppd or anyother dial up for linux (mine
has atleast one other than kppp) bring up the task monitor and kill those
processes. Mini com will keep mine from entering. Also the other steps I
gave you are all I needed to get kppp up and running. put in your - account
name(the one that dial up network in windows would need) - password - phone
number. Double check the info. get those dns addresses. If you did any
fancy script editing you might need to remove it. Or just reinstall. Hope
this helps

I heard nearly the same thing from someone who works for 3dfx but used
to work for AMD. But it's not restricted to AGP-TNT cards, I've had the
same problems with a voodoo3 3000 AGP and voodoo3 2000 PCI. I'd recommend
