I'm having some difficulty partitioning and formating my 40 GB Maxtor drive.
Either the partitioning doesn't work quite right and/or the making of the
file
system doesn't occur properly. Has anyone else out there partitioned a 40
GB
hard disk successfully? I'm actually looking to patition the drive FAT32
LBA for a windows 98 box, but I've tried Linux Native type too to no avail.
Please mail me about this as I' m posting this from some windows machine
using something that vaguely resemples a combination of IE and Outlook and I
have no idea how to change who the message is from or how to get back here.
Thanks. ;)

Just pay attention to the world. Things aren't as dire across
the board as their are in computing. Much of that has to do
with the fact that far too many people are intimidated by the
technology. Perhaps that will change as the tech gets out of
it's infancy.

Both XF863.3.5 and 3.3.6 support the card, but you have to use the
drivers specified at: http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.6/S3V1.html#1 The
easiest way to set it up is using XF86config. I think it may even
autoprobe these cards succesfully

You may have to od something similar...

You can download the modules and standard kernel at
http://204.216.187.141/setpnp.html. This works with most distribution's
kernel except Redhat.

Don't know. It's not stamped "Must be configured externally", and
you're too busy asking questions to tell me how to figure it out.
> Does it hook up proper resources? Have you got proper driver modules,

Verified /proc/interrupts and /proc/ioports?
What the hell are "proper resources"? That advice is about as useful
as "Good nutrition is important". Same deal with "proper driver
modules". The mention of conf.modules is useful, the "edited" is not:
I doubt that appending the line "Dear Mandrake, please turn on my NIC
card, thank you" will fire that puppy up.
> Checked whether is the card alive at all?
Ordering a 2nd card and installing it is one way to do that. That's
why I ordered another one. Of course, there may be other ways, but
they're apparently top secret and can't be revealed.
Seriously, people, I see a lot of smartasses who want everyone to know
that they COULD answer your question, cause they sure do know the
answer, no doubt about it, but you screwed up by not asking it using
the proper syntax, so they're helpless, so sorry! Or demand that
someone provide a lot of information that, if I was a newbie, I
wouldn't have the slightest idea how to obtain. Would you ask someone
who wrote in asking how to change the oil in their car "How many
cylinders is it? Is it transverse-mounted? What's the compression
ratio? Are the universal joints Bingwappers or Flogdooders?"
A newbie who writes in asking how to install a NIC card is assuming
that the install procedure is easy, and that they are just lacking the
knowledge on how to do it. If you can't help them, then don't. But
don't chastise them simply because YOU can't answer the question
without knowing EXACTLY what the problem is. Sometimes you do need
more info, that's true, but several times I've seen responses asking
for more information, followed by ONE response by ONE guy with the
correct answer! Now how was THAT guy able to help the newbie? Is he
just psychic, or maybe just more patient? Or maybe he doesn't need to
know the model number of a monitor before suggesting some possible
solutions to "My monitor won't turn on".
And I'm not just slamming you, so don't be offended, I've just seen
other answers similar to the above that were even worse, and felt that
some of the information demanded of newbies isn't relevant to the
problem, and some of it was provided in the original question if only
the person would READ.

I have a ASUS P2B-DS (onboard SCSI). Main problem is that I can't
UDMA/33 working (actually, no DMA to IDE drives - hard or CD). I
now suspect that the BIOS does not set up the controllers
correctly. I've downloaded a new BIOS and will try it.
Outside of DMA problems, I like the board a lot. It's given me
very few problems, even when running dev kernels. Problems that
are reported on many boards haven't been showing up too often on
the ASUS.
I don't know if all ATX boards have this problem, but it is
difficult to get a really long IDE board installed. If I recall,
only one slot can be used with a long board, and the board sort of
hits some connectors for leds and the like. The board in my case
is a SoundBlaster/32. If you have two long ide boards, I don't
think you can install both of them. If this is an issue for you, I
can check the system.

Actually that is not the convention. Metric system everywhere (except for
silly Imperial places like the US) there is not supposed to be any separator
between the hundreds, thousands, etc.
i.e. 2, 100, 200.28 in the Imperial system is supposed to be:
2 100 200.28 in English, with 2 100 200,28 in French (I'm Canadian, we've
got both :)).
Banks everywhere use the separator though because it prevents people from
adding digits.
Wow, I need to unclutter my brain.

Does anyone know if this configuration would ever work?
I have a couple processor cards for a compaq proliant server. They run
486DX/50 chips. The chips can be removed. What would happen if I put in a
dx4/100 chip or the like. Do you think it might work?
I have taken intel overdrive processors and put them in other compaq
processor boards (P5/66 board with a 133MHz upgrade chip, and it works
fine).
I know that the DX/? is a factor of a multiplier of the processor bus, in
this case 50MHz. Is anyone aware of a DX2/100 or something like that? I have
been tempted to put a DX2/66 chip in the thing to see what happens, but I am
not sure as this chip has a bus speed of 33MHz. I dont know what would
happen if I tried to run it at 50MHz. I guess I might end up with a 100MHz
board?
If you know the answer, I would like to hear about it.
Thanks,
Todd
