Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has the Microsolutions Backpack CD-RW working
with Xcd Roast ?
If you do (that is, if it's even possible), could you let me know?
I have generic-SCSCI support (and all the other stuff the manual tells
you to do).
Thanks,
Brandon

Likewise I have an old 486 still in Linux service. With a new Maxtor
drive and Maxblast, I can boot Linux (RH 5.2, 6.0 and 6.1), DOS, and
Windoze98. With Maxblast, only OS/2 will not boot, since it does not
recognize the sector 0 mapping required by Maxblast.

Thanks Matt G (a.k.a. Dances With Crows) & Robie for your expertise and helpful
and accurate suggestions. My system runs very smoothly now! You've saved me
hours (if not days) of frustrating troubleshooting!
I had no idea that the BIOS virus protection was simply scanning the MBR and
that 'mem=128M' was a valid parameter for LILO!
Thanks again, gurus.

Hello everybody!
I'm trying to install CMI8738 PCIAudio under Linux Kernel 2.2.13. I
already tried several release versions of the driver for it, but when
it comes to the point to do the "make config" command, I always get the
error message: "no rule to make target 'config' " Do I have to configure the
"make"-command or what could be the reason for this error? Does somebody
know, what to do?
Already thanks in advance

Ok, maybe I'm missing something here, but you
said:

So you've wiped your hard drive clean. I'm
assuming you've installed an OS of some sort,
after running fdisk? (Your post contained no
mention of it, so I thought I'd ask.) If you
haven't, then what you're seeing is right. "No
operating system found" 'cause there isn't one.
:)
If you _have_ installed something since running
fdisk, then it's a completely different
problem....

As it happens, the SCSI tape driver is not included in the default RedHat 6.0
distribution. You can verify this: rpm -ql -p kernel-2.2.5-22.i566.rpm | grep
st
I had to rebuild the kernel to get the tape driver, st.o.
I highly recommend that Richard practices this installation a few times before
downing a production machine, if that is possible.

Subject: do these NIC's work w/ Linux?
Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 21:50:00 GMT
I am trying to identify and make use of 2 types
of ISA 10base2/T switchless NIC's under Linux.
Can anyone assist me in determining
manufacturer/make/model and needed
software/driver/settings? I have used isapnp to
determine that they are not ISA PnP cards and
they have no jumper settings.
Card type #1:
The most identifying marks on the board are: 'EN-
2420P' and 'REV.W4'
Here is the info off of the IC's:
Winbond W89C906F 506TE24510220
Winbond W24257S-70LL 95140
MYSON MTD392N 9517 EQ
There is a small 8-pin IC that looks like
EEPROM's that I have seen before. It has a white
sticker on it with the number: 111328
DC-109 YCL 12V->9V 9511
16PT-006A YCL 9516H
20F001N YCL9516G
There is one empty 28-pin ROM socket.
Card type #2:
The most identifying marks on the board are: EZ-
2000
Here is the info off of the IC's:
UMC UM9003AF 9449-ES
RA20H6
UM61256CK-25 9504D R95125
UM9096 9451-BM NA20M6
ISSI 9443 IS93C46P
MYSON MTD392N 9503 EQ
DPSO5UO9D IN 5 VDC OUT 9 VDC
THB16J04A DELTA 9501
LANF72366 DEL 9449
There is one empty 28-pin ROM socket.
I am sure I have provided more information than
is needed on these cards, but I figure better to
provide too much, than not enough.
Any and all bits of information or suggestions
are welcome.

Subject: Problem installing scsi hard drive.
Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 17:05:23 -0500
I have setup Redhat Linux 6.1 on a scsi hard drive and want
to be able to access dos and be able to boot into it.
Right now I have no dos access to the hard drive. If I use
a dos boot disk, dos on the floppy drive can not see the dos
partition on the hard drive. I used adaptec's afdisk which allowed
me to see the partitions and format the dos partition. Fdisk
cannot see the hard drive. The boot floppy has scsi drivers
and I can access the cd-rom. When it boots up the
system initialization seems to go ok and there is a listing of
the three scsi devices and their individual scsi id numbers.
Somehow the hard drive does not get assigned a drive letter nor
does the tape unit. At this point I am more concerned with
recognizing the hard drive. To compound the problem
the bios is strange in that if the scsi is enabled, the floppy
cannot be used to boot from. Thus I have to set it for disabled.
In any case that did not stop Linux from being installed and
run without any problems. Is this a catch 22 or is there
a way to activate my hard drive?
Thanks
Mike

Good info. Thanks.

I thought the only difference was the SX, though having the circuitry for
a math coprocessor, had the MCP turned off because it failed some QC
check. IIRC, there was a way to turn your SX into a DX somehow. I had
the DX so I didn't bother.
Take care,

Using an Adaptec 2940 or the current equivalent and a Ricoh 2600 SCSI CD/RW
or even any later Ricoh SCSI CD/RW.
The Adaptec and Ricoh combo has been totally bullet proof.

I have Voodoo 2, with a similar problem except that the screen doesn't
