Check out the /cat/cpuinfo dump from another poster who has a dual
PIII (non-coppermine). The cache shows up, I would think the coppermines should
be no different.

Check /etc/fstab. Do you change the from iso9660 to something else? Have you
tried to mount manually, 'mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom'/?

Subject: Linux multisession cdr appears empty
Date: Wed, 05 Apr 2000 06:00:21 GMT
After creating a multi-session cdr using mkisofs and cdrecord, the disk
appears empty when mounted, but works fine in Windows95. Any ideas why?
Everything goes just fine during writing. I'm able to read and verify
all files in Windows.
Redhat6.1 using ide cdrw with ide-scsi loaded as a module.
1. Create first track:
mkisofs -r /source/file1 | cdrecord -v -speed=2 -dev=1,0,0 -multi -eject
-
2. Get location of next track:
cdrecord -dev=1,0,0 -msinfo, gives me 0,196174
3. Write next track:
mkisofs -r -C 1.196174 -M /dev/sr0 /source/file2 | cdrecord -v -speed=2
-dev=1,0,0 -multi -eject -
4. Mount the disk:
mount /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom (separate cdrom drive)
ls -l, total 0
5. Thought maybe I needed to fix the disk, so I wrote a small file to
close the disk out. Did not help.
Thanks!

My suggestion would be to use XOSL eXtended OS Loader.
http://www.xosl.org
It allows configurable multi-boots, has a windows-like GUI, and a lot of
other options. It also auto-recognizes most disk format-types. I'm using
it to swap between Win98 + Debian on one physical drive, and Mandrake 7.0 on
my secondary physical drive---I'll probably add BeOS when I get a chance to
let the download run that long.
I know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but I think it may provide
a better solution ultimately.
--it's free
--it works well
--it's easily uninstallable
--it can be pointed at any primary/extended partition for booting

Ed,
Given my recent experience, I would recommend the Diamond Supra Express 56i
v.90 ISA modem. I just found the jumper configuration info on the
driver/software CD (only in Spanish, I have no idea why), and have got it
running under Win98 and 2 versions of Linux now.
-it always connects at a high speed (higher than a similar USR that I tried
in side-by-side tests)
-it has good speakerphone capability
-it has jumpers for either P-n-P for Windows-only operation OR a whole
*slew* of IRQ/address/COM port 'hard' configurations. Ignore what you might
read on the web, or in the Readme files---they are WRONG. They erroneously
state that there are either 'jumperless PnP' or 'jumpered non-PnP'
versions.
-it's fairly cheap
-it's proved very durable (over 1 year of nightly use on Win9x, and now with
my recently installed Linux'es)
If you have other questions, I can post/email what I know. Hope this helps.

Subject: Re: Which of these Ethernet Cards?
Date: 05 Apr 2000 01:32:12 -0400
Does anyone know the relative merits of the various ethernet cards?
In particular, which ones are most efficient (eg., I have heard that NE2000
and clones do very low-level PIO, compared to modern cards that do DMA). I've
also heard that some cards like RT8039 are somewhere in between, but I don't
know the exact details.
What I'm looking for is the type of detailed functional description that I've
seen for various SCSI cards. (I think was is in the SCSI howto).
So far I've been using the 3Com 509 "Vortex" cards and DEC Tulip cards but
perhaps I can get the same results with something cheaper. So I'm curious
about other cards like the Kingston KNE110TX, the D-Link DFE530TX,
and the SMC EZ NET 10/100.
Thanks,
Richard

Color Printer works "mostly" with Linux.
Mostly:These printers work almost perfectly - funny enhanced resolution

make the printouts not useful.
You can get the Canon Bubble Jet BJC-2000 Color Printer for $39.98

Kenneth,
I was just reading the other day in Scott Mueller's book "Upgrading and
Repairing PC's" 10th ed that is not uncommon for hard drives to fail at higher
altitudes. This is due to the fact that the read write heads float on a
cushion of air as the platters spin. If the barometric pressure is too low,
the air is basically insufficient to support the heads, and they eventually
damage the surface of the platters, causing a drive failure.
There are drives made without the breather hole, and are sealed to avoid
this situation.
Read up on it, and contact the companies to see what they say.
