Hi,

I had MS-Win98 running on a partition and Linux on another - no problems -
every thing OK.

Now there was also an extended MS-Win98 (MSDOS) partition, it was empty.

I wanted to make this partiton into a linux partiton as I needed the space.

In Linux I did fdisk, deleted, added and it as a Linux Native
FileSystemType. rebooted.

>From Fdisk looks good ->

/dev/hda1 * ... Unknown (windows)
/dev/hda2 Linux Native (new partition)
/dev/hda3 Linux Native (Linux /)
/dev/hda4 Linux Swap

but when I; mount -t ext2 /dev/hda2 /opt

Print loads of stuff like this;

EXT2-fs error drive 03:02 ext2_check_block_bitmaps block #253 of the inode
table in group30 is marked free

after many lines like this (with the #25x.. number going from the first
block to the last of the partition) there is a panic and the system locks
completely.

MSDOS fdisk will let me reclaim the partion for itself - but I really need
it for Linux. Do I need to do something before mounting ???

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I agree, the Diamond MM HPNA v2.0 is a Broadcom Chip! I think Diamond used
the AMD for their HPNA 1.0 ( 1 mbps card). If the AMD driver does work for
the Diamond HPNA2.0 cards, please post and let us know. Have been looking
many places to find Linux support for the Diamond MM HPNA 2.0 (10mbps card).
Your help would be appreciated

For Unix OS internals, I'd suggest "The Design of the UNIX Operating
System" by Maurice J. Bach. (Warning: it's heady stuff.)

After you've waded your way through that, go to www.amazon.com
and do a search on "Linux kernel" for more Linux-specific resources.

You may want to check the Linux Hardware Database Network
Card section. There are ratings, reviews and driver info. Most product
entries also have chipset info, so if you prefer a tulip (or, to be
accurate, a tulip clone, since authentic tulips are card to get
nowadays), you can look at just those cards.

And whichever one you get, be sure to come back and rate it
in LhD to help others pick the right one!

also, i re-inserted the floppy and re-typed the directions, as below.

so, I am mystified.

It's actually the other way around. You'll need less fans because of
the excellent airflow in Addtronics cases. Addtronics also provide
plastic fan holders for the 80mm, 92mm and 120mm fans so they
shouldn't make any contact with the chassis itself.

>we're trying to AVOID the helicopter sound here...

That is best done my doing some thermal calculations and act
accordingly.

Average internal heat dissipation 150W, air in 25C.

Case A) Effective airflow 40 CFM, air out 31,7C

Case B) Effective airflow 80 CFM, air out 28,5C

Net gain by having three 3dxfcool T-RexVeryNoisyVibratesLikeHellHoFoMo
fans is 3,2C. Not much is it?

Air evacuates easily from Addtronics cases. That means less static
pressure inside the case so a couple of low-noise fans will usually do
the job, one in front (in) and one next to the ext. 5,25" bays (out).
Add to that you can put two internal 3,5" drives right behind the
upper intake fan. Very nice.

Use dedicated fans for hot chipsets + a couple of fans to move fresh
air in and out of the case and you should have a cool+quiet system.

I'm quite sure you will notice a voltage drop when you spin up a
CD-ROM, even at half load and using some HW monitoring program
set to max. resolution (1 sec. or more <G>).

To study voltage regulaton you'll need a scope bud.

OK, at face value this says the modem detected a line drop. It could be
a dodgy phone line, otherwise probably something which needs a bit of
tuning of your modem settings.

Perhaps I should have clarified that demon.tech.modems *is* carried by
news servers outside Demon. Freeserve seems to have a similar group
which I think is also propogated. Your ISP (BTInternet?) may have an
equivalent though I expect it is only carried internally.

Has it always been like this or did it deteriorate recently? Line

To use 1 GB you'll want registered DIMMs, unbuffered DIMMs will only
get you to 512 MB. Both ECC and non-ECC DIMMs are supported,
which is lucky given that ECC is so much more expensive.

Yes, a second processor will definitely be very helpful in that scenario,
iff there will be a heavy load on the machine.

Also, see the relevant LhD entry:
http://www.linhardware.com/db/dispproduct.php3?DISP?49
and please rate the board once you get Linux running on it!

If you want anything besides striping, you'll likely need to stick with
a SCSI solution; how else will you work around the IDE master/slave

Just picked up Redhat 6.2 today and ran the install. I get as far as
specifying my CDROM (for source media location) then I get the following
error and the system hangs when it tries to load the aic7xxx:

kernel panic: aic7xxx: unrecoverable BRKADRINT

The SCSI driver on the Redhat v5.2, 6.0, 6.1 boot disks work fine for me. I
only get this problem when moving to 6.2. I tried to boot with the v6.1 to
run the v6.2 install off the CDROM, but the GUI install fails after
x-windows starts and the system reboots (didn't really think it would work,
but what the hell). By the way I have a adaptec 2842.

Is there a way to put the v6.1 aic7xxx driver on a floppy and specify this
driver when running the v6.2 install? How do I do this- specifically what is
the format of a Red Hat "driver disk"?
