According to this web page, it's not supported. Good luck.

I am trying to use an ISA Ensoniq Soundscape VIVO 90 in RedHat Linux
6.2. I used sndconfig, and it found it right away as a soundscape VIVO,
but when I try to play mp3s with xmms, it gives me the same error it did
before I used sndconfig to add it. It put a bunch of entries in
/etc/conf.modules, and I was wondering if some of these irqs or ios
might be wrong? Does anyone know of a way to get the ports this thing
is using? I have only linux on the machine so i can't check in
windows. I also have a fairly old bios(its a p166 gateway) so i can't
find it there.

If someone could tell me how to detect the setup or if there's something
else I'm doing wrong here I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks,
Kevin

It turns out to be a regular PS/2 mouse. My mistake was that, because
gpmconfig starts gpm after you've put your settings into it, I figured
it stops it before it tries to change the settings. Instead, despite
having a previous gpm running, it claims to be starting one, except
that the new changes didn't actually take effect! Stopping gpm before
running gpmconfig made it work as expected.

I won't be making that mistake again. (-:

Not necessarily, although it might be. I write books in English (see
http://www.rodsbooks.com/books/), but I'm told that two of my books have
been or are being translated into other languages (Dutch for one, IIRC,
and Chinese for another). I have nothing to do with these translations,
other than having provided the "raw material." For the first, I only
found out about it because I saw a line on one of my royalty statements
concerning the translation, and it didn't even identify the target
language; I had to ask. I've heard nothing about it since then. In other
words, authors can be quite uninformed about the translation status of
their books.

Now, if the author is actively involved in the translation effort, that
would be a different matter. Ditto if the publisher provides better
information to the author.

Subject: Re: TLB Wait Message on SMP lockup - UPDATE
Date: Mon, 19 Jun 2000 01:45:02 GMT

I replaced the BIOS with QQ and upgraded to kernel 2.2.16.

I also replaced the OSS driver from 4Front with alsa. Now, when loading
the system with
seti and keeping the temperature pretty low, I am no longer getting the TLB
IP waits, but am
now getting

Jun 18 21:38:44 localhost kernel: unexpected IRQ vector 208 on CPU#0!

It is always vector 208 but varies between CPUs. This only happens after
the system is up and running for a few hours.

The system doesn't crash with this message - just wondering if it is a
problem.

TIA,
Chris Shenefiel

Thanks for the tip.
I have been advised that were known problems with the AMI drivers in 6.0 -
these were fixed in 6.2. I think I will save some time and get the up_to
_date version.......

I solved this problem by upgrading the kernel
to kernel-2.4.0-test1 from http://www.uk.kernel.org/

Oh yer it is `mount -t vfat /dev/hdc /ls120'

That's funny. The dump that I use which ships with RedHat 6.2 seems to
dump just what I told it to. So if you just want to dump /home/a_user
you can do that. I did notice, however, when I did a subsequent compare
with "restore -C" that restore complained about other items in the file
system being missing from the tape. An annoyance, but liveable...

Well they are expensive, I paid 7$ for my PCI NICs using Realtek
chipset. doesn't really matter what distro it is, the NIC drivers are in

If you've have one as slave... then it needs to be set to Master or

Okay, I downloaded the appropriate files. It says:

"To install the Lucent modem driver in LINUX, you need to run the install
script "./ltinst" from the command prompt."

I go to "konsole" and type ./ltinst
I get an error saying that the module "ltmodem" was not found!
There is a file in the same directory called ltmodem.o
Is there some other place I should put this file?

I'm using Linux Mandrake 7.1 and it has been great with everything except my

Subject: USB Mouse with 2.4.0test1?!
Date: Mon, 19 Jun 2000 04:05:33 GMT

OK, I've spent... 8 hours on this now. Non-stop.

How do I get my USB mouse working in 2.4.0test1? Or in ANY kernel, ever,
anywhere?!?!

I compiled with USB HID support, USB UHCI support, USB support, USB mouse
support, and all that. I am fairly confident that, after 7 times, I have the
kernel compiled correctly for USB. I modprobed usbmouse, usbcore and
usb-uhci. All are loaded.

When I boot X, it errors me with:
"/dev/usbmouse: No such device"

Same when I cat /dev/usbmouse

I did mknod /dev/usbmouse c 10 32
And mknod /dev/usbmouse c 180 16
I tried putting it in /dev/usb/usbmouse.
I tried usbmouse0.

What is it that's missing? Why does it say no such device?! I deleted
/dev/mouse, too (forgot why), so I can't even use my PS/2 mouse anymore.

Something with this alias char-major-*-* business? Something I'm not
loading?

Using Debian 2.3. Help *GREATLY* appreciated. I'm still pretty new, but I'm
a fast learner.

Using XFree 4.0. Nvidia drivers. But I don't think it has anything to do
with X because it can't find the device when I cat either.

When I do more /proc/interrupts and click my mouse a bit, the number next to
usb-uhci increases. So the mouse is being recognized by something, at least.

This No Such Device thing really has me stumped.

TIA,

-Dolgan
