Well heck I'll reply. Won't be much help though.
I'm using a SB PCI 512 under linux using the beta
driver from Creative Labs site. It seems to be
working fine. No experience with telephony,
no experience with microphone input though.
As far as sound cards my impression is that you'd
be better off with a Sound Blaster, since they seem
to have the most support under Linux. Also check
the Creative Labs site, they should be able to tell
you if the driver supports full-duplex or not.
Good Luck

I had a similar problem with my Intel 740 card. The problem was that i
the version of XFree86 didn't support my card. TRhe solutiona was
simple. Get a newer version of X and the problrm was no more :))
i don't know which version of X is 'default' in RH 5.2 but i don't think
it is new enough for your card. Not sure though. Check which Xfree
filkes you need and get them. Maybe you should get XF86Setup too. I like
it, it is an easy-to-use setup program.
Good luck :)

Hello,
The binary version should be easy to install (just read the README real
carefully).
I have to tell you that I'm not familar with Slackware. What I understand from
other people is that Slackware is not user friendly :-(

Are you trying to invoke the screen saver as root??? in that case workstation
locking would be disabled (probably because ctl-alt-backspace would kill the
xwindow session and the intruder would get root shell access...correct me if i
am wrong folks....)..try locking the screen as a non-root user and reply back...

Subject: Shared RAID for mail/web server + load balancer? How do I do that?
Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 17:52:39 +0800
Hi!
I need to set up a mail /web server at where I'm working, and after
thinking about it for a while, I thought it better to have a fault
tolerant set up. I sort of managed to determine what bits & pieces I'd
required... but putting it together is entirely another matter!!
I'd appreciate any help, pointers, advice, resources anyone could point
me towards.
The basic stuff are:
2 linux boxes, built-in dual channel SCSI RAID
1 load balancer
1 external RAID
RH Linux 6.2
(Mix well....ugghh)
What i need to do is to have the 2 Linux boxes to be identical, these 2
boxes access 1 set of data on the external raid. ie, there should be
only 1 set of mail app, mailboxes etc.
So these 2 boxes need to have their own OS? Can they share data?
A load balancer will determine which box gets the job etc. for a fault
tolerant setup.
How can I put everything together? Are there any extra special bits that
I require?
Is there a better way of doing this? ie, sharing data on 1 RAID
subsystem is a no-no?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

When i run shutdown -h now

Whay might be the reason for this?

This is a home server not a corporate server, there isn't any need to go
beyond 2 drives which IDE supports fine. Buy one 45G or 60G drive now
and in two years, if you've run out of space, by a second drive (by then
a $250 drive will probably be 200G). There is a huge price difference
between IDE and SCSI, use the money to buy a larger drive and more RAM.

Similar problems with SuSE and the 2.2.16 kernel. The drive worked fine
with any other 2.2 kernel and certain 2.3 kernels. I think that the imm

probably have to downgrade to 2.2.15 or upgrade to 2.2.17-pre1 to get

You don't really want such a beast. Motherboards with everything
integrated are often low-quality, and of course it's practically
impossible to upgrade the video card. If this is a price thing, you can
pick up a Super 7 board, an ATi Xpert98, and an Ensoniq AudioPCI for
fairly cheap.
The boards in the Dell Optiplex GX-1 have ATi Mach64 graphics chips,
CS4232 sound, and a 3Com905B on the motherboard, and everything's
supported under Linux. Can't remember the exact motherboard name, though.

Subject: 'Half-Screen Driver' wanted (for broken TFT)
>>> Half-screen video driver wanted. <<<
Why? My Laptop (HP omnibook 3000ctx) fell on the cold, hard floor
Now the TFT-screen is half kaputt.
Only the top half works, the bottom half is just white.
Who knows of a video driver for LINUX and/or Windows9x that displays the whole
screen-content only in the upper half ???
pls email me... norb ( at ) geocities.com If you help me succeed, I'll make a
web-page for the benefit of all.
