I have one running in a linux box, I found it really easy to setup and run
with the real tulip driver.

Well I found out 32-MEG of RAM won't even support the GUI installer included
with SuSE Linux! And the entire package would like 6-GIG for it's living
quarters! Wow...and we thought Windows was bad! :)

The SCSI devices all have their own SCSI I.D., not using LUNs.

If I up the RAM, say to 64-MEG, and get a larger hard drive, will the
Pentium-60 do a respectable job with Linux in the KDE GUI mode?

I have a PIII-500 system, but I'm not ready to commit that to Linux just
yet.

Thanks for your help,
Bill Crocker

I changed my /etc/conf.modules to look like above. What happens this
time is that I get the following error message:

SIOCSIFADDR: No buffer space available
SIOCSIFNETMASK: Cannot assign request address
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: Cannot assign request address

Anybody have any ideas??

Hello, I have a PC and a laptop both connected via a 10Base T hub. At
one point the Laptop was running RH 5.1, I upgraded it to 6.2 while
keeping the desktop at 6.0. I used t be able to telnet, ftp and rlogin
from either one to the other. Ever since I upgraded the laptop, I can
telnet, ftp, rlogin only from the laptop to the desktop, but not the
other way around. However, I can ping the laptop from the desktop
without problems.

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Suspect the ramdisk is too small. Could anybody help on how I can

tekram dc-390u2w or symbios21002

the symbios chipset based controller are priced competitively (half of
what adaptec charges for a similar model) and have excellent linux
driver support (more mature and stable than adaptec driver).

No, the problem is that your machine has too little memory to do a
standard install of any normal distribution. There's a guide on how to do
an installation if your available RAM is so tiny; it's at
  http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/4mb-Laptops.html
although if you want this machine to serve *anything*, you'd better go get
more memory and a bigger disk.

I do not know which XFree86 rpm file I need to use to support the new

I have a ls-120 superdrive installed in place of a regular floppy drive.
When Linux(RH) boots it identifies the drive as hdd which is correct as it
is installed as the slave on my secondary IDE port. Linux, however does not
set up or recognize the drive in control panel or linuxconf. It does
however list a floppy device which it should not since all floppy drives are
turned off in the BIOS. I guess what I need to know and have been unable to
find in the help documents is the mount point(s) for a LS-120 when using a
1.44M floppy disk and when using a 120M superdisk.
Thanks.

Yes, and it definitely is not. Supposedly they are working on Linux

Check www.linux.org or linuxhq or some of those other places. There's a
project already underway called Livid or something like that. They have a
fairly elaborate web site (I wish I bookmarked it) and are releasing developer
versions of the code. Last I checked there were a few patches to the kernel
that had to be applied for things to work--kinda.

insmod seems to fail on boot-up.

When I try it manually insmod 3c509 after boot, it fails the first time
with:

'resource busy'

then when I retry again, it says:

These are good processors, using a K6-3/400 on my workstation and a
K6-2/350 downclocked in my server.

What about the voltage regulators? The K6 Line sucks lot of power for
the core. The next reason for problems is a bad and slow powersupply,
the idle will produce big voltage jumpings when the core is switched
off and on. Testing a bigger powersupply may help.

Did you get the temperature under the chip or from the cooler? Too
much thermal compound will isolate the chip from his cooler.

Hello,

i am using a longshine LCS-PS1 Printserver with a Epson StylusC440
Printer. With bigger Prints (fullsize graphics) the spool will be
interrupted, the lpd was restarted and the print is lost in space.

Did someone have an idea to get bigger prints? the mx#0 already exist
in the printcap.

Which XFree86 rpm for Linux-Mandrake supports this video chipset. A trip
ti VIAs web page netted widers/DOS drivers, but no linux drivers.

Subject: HP Printers
Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2000 23:07:21 -0400

While HP claims to support the Linux architecture it still continues to
manufacture Windows specific printers and will provide no drivers for the
Linux OS.
I have one of those printers: the HP 820 Cse for Windows.
I have found a third party program that is supposed to be able to use these
types of printers with Ghostscript. Consult http://www.httptech.com for
download program.
The problem I have is in setting up my printer on PPA in order to utilize
this software.
I have, and I think many other newbies to Linux have, a problem with knowing
exactly where to go and how to set up hardware. And it isn't because of a
lack of trying. I have purchased three books on the Linux OS and have
checked out many more from my local library but can find no help in setting
up hardware not automatically set up by Linux. Any help will be appreciated.
Please see my request in this newsgroup for LS-120 FLOPTICAL information
also.

ANALYSIS:

The biggest problem facing Linux in it's competition with Windows is the
ease in which hardware is recognized and installed. The process must become
more automatic and user friendly. Even downloading and installing updates
is too complicated and requires too much knowledge of command structure to
win many advocates.
