Anyone know how to get Dynalink 128Kbps TA ISND Card to work in linux
mandrake 7.1? The kernel is 2.2.15.

if you mean to be able to access files on the linux machine, then you need
to
install samba server and maybe client if you want to look at the windows
files from
the linux machine...

It is supported, I use the similar DC395UW. Get the driver from

If it has jumpers, how do you have it jumpered? (address & IRQ)
If it is PnP-only, are you using isapnptools?
Have you tried it with minicom?
It's kind of hard to tell where you've hit the wall... the modem itself is
fine (Rockwell ACF, ACF-2 modems are full hardware modems).
Have you seen the Modem-HOWTO at http://linuxdoc.org/HOWTO ?

Subject: intermittent disk freezups
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Grant Reaber)
Date: 5 Aug 2000 05:45:42 -0800
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDT (to give you an idea of the era,
it's a Pentium 100 with 32MB of RAM and a 1.2GB disk). I'm running
SuSE 6.3 with the included 2.2.13 kernel with no APM support.
A couple weeks ago, I decided to play around with hdparm to try to
improve my disk performance. Well, it seemed to work at first, but
soon I noticed that my I/O on my system would freeze up periodically
for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Well, I eventually
undid these hdparm settings (i.e., I cold rebooted and didn't change
the settings back), but not before one rather scary experience where
the BIOS reported an I/O error and it was only after power cycling
several times that I got to a LILO prompt and was able to boot Linux.
E2fsck reported lots of problems then, but everything seemed to work
OK afterwards. Except that the freezeups persist and or have even
gotten worse.
I wrote a program to test this phenomenon by trying to read or write a
file every five seconds, calling fsync, and reporting how long the
cycle has taken. The number should always be 5 since that's how long
the sleep is, but it is often longer, in which case the program prints
out the length of the delay in parentheses. I ran two copies of the
program at the same time, one doing reads and the other writes. The
data below are side by side, but they don't line up exactly since
sometimes one program was able to make a read (say) while the other
was still locked up. Also, the number before the colon is the number
of seconds since the program was launched, and these numbers do not
exactly correspond for the two runs since I didn't start the programs
at exactly the same time. I include the data and source code below.
There don't seem to be major differences between the write and read
results (I was afraid readahead could screw up the read results, but
apparently not). The major observation is that there are long periods
with no problems at all, like from somewhere in the 30000s to
somewhere in the 70000s. These periods correspond to times when I was
not using my computer and these I/O testing programs were the only
active processes. The 15 minute freezeups correspond to the times
when I most wanted to get work done.
Anyway, any ideas on this? Is this a normal failure mode for hard
disks? I've heard that drives periodically have to adjust for the
current temperature; is it possible that this part of my drive is
broken and takes forever? Is it possible that fooling with hdparm
somehow pushed my drive over the edge when it was already on the
brink? Or might it be possible to get my drive working normally
again? I really don't have any choice at this point except to do
important work on this computer.
Also, for anyone familiar with the 430CDT, I don't have the external
floppy drive. Does that mean that if my hard disk fails the only way
to boot is to get another hard disk with an OS installed and use that?
There doesn't seem to be an option to boot from CDROM.
Thanks.

I have an old AMD K6-II 350 which I would like to install Linux on, the only
problem is that it has a PC Chips motherboard that Redhat 5.2 doesn't like.
Has anyone had any success in running a newer version of Redhat (with
X-Windows)on a PC Chips motherboard? If not, could anyone please recommend
another distribution (with X-Windows) that sits happily on a PC Chips
motherboard.

Hi all!
Does anybody out there have any experience with the aacraid driver
included in 2.2.16-3 from RedHat? The download page mentions support for
Adaptec RAID controllers, but it doesn't state which controllers are
supported. Furthermore I have not found any docs on it, and the source
code (drivers/scsi/aacraid/) doesn't provide much help.
When running "insmod aacraid" out of the box on an AAA-131U2 I get a
"device or resource busy" message. The controller does not share IRQ
with any other device in the machine.
Any comments on this would be appreciated.
Best regards

LILO 21.5 will boot beyond cylinder 1023. It requires BIOS support for EDD
packet calls on int 0x13. The source distribution includes a bootable floppy
disk (make floppy) to test your BIOS.

I use SUSE 6.3 on a very old PC chips board (VX pro I think) with a very
slow cyrix p133 and 16mb of memory, you can get it for about 30 on 6 cds,
it comes with loads of apps (star office, word perfect, blender, demo
games...) though there is some dodgy german translation but its not a major
problem. The only issue I had was installing the right kernel (486 instead
of a pentium) but you should have no probs if you have lots of ram and a
good graphics card, I think it has 3D support for TNT, 3DFX and Matrox.

Which PC Chips board do you have?
I ran Redhat 6.0 for a while on my old PC Chips M571 (SiS 5598

Hi,
I just wanted to hook in another network card to my RedHat 6.2 computer, and
I happened to have a spare ISA card lying around (on windows, it used to use
the rtl8029 driver... i'm assuming it's ne2000 compatible).
I went to netcfg and put in the driver, using ne.o as the module in
/etc/conf.modules ... but when I try to activate the interface, it says
"Delaying eth2 initialization." and doesn't work.
Any ideas, or is there a program available to autodetect and install this
card (it's ISA)?
