Installing LILO again works for me. Just type 'lilo' at the command
line.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this newsgroup, and this is my last resort :(. after
chasing Diamond Multimedia for a period of over 6 months, to get
updated drivers for Win2K without any luck, I now find myself stuck
with Linux also. Can it really be true that a company can be so
irresponsible with their products. This is like the most expensive
video card diamond has made, and probably the card with the poorest
support. Did anybody get this card to work under Linux and how. Help
greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Subject: SCSI CDRW Locks up Redhat 6.1
Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 01:54:05 GMT

I just purchased a Yamaha 8x8x24 SCSI CD Recorder.
This replaces an IDE CD Recorder which I could not get to work under
Linux.

I installed it today, but after getting all software (cdrecord and
Xcdroast),
it is not working.

Everything shows to be installed and working properly.

However, when I actually go to write the cd, XCDRoast shows anywhere
from
17% to 43% complete (depending on burn speed) then the CD Recorder's
recording light goes off. The system is usable for about 1 minute, then
the
ENTIRE SYSTEM freezes up. Only way out is to power off the machine.
This happens every time.

RedHat 6.1.

INITIO Ultra SCSI PCI card which has been in the system for 2-3 months
without
problems. Has a scanner set on id 2, cd recorder on id 3.

In the SCSI BIOS, I had to set the drive to be allowed to use
ASynchronous
transfer for things to be stable under Windows. Either way, Linux does
not work.

Any clues. Is there some other parameter that need to be configured for
this
SCSI drive under linux?

After setting the SCSI BIOS to Async transfer mode, it works great under
Win98.
Made 3 different CDs.

Ok I have a Cirrus 56K modem. It's all setup. I have all the settings in
KPPP configured. When I select connect it initializes and runs the dial
string "ADT(number)" however it hangs there or something. It never actually
dials. I read that I might need to change the jumpers to coincide with the
irq the software has designated for it. How do I find out what IRQ Linux
recognizes for Com2? Or if the problem is different how can I go about
solving it?

Thanks

If the partition table gets f###ed up, chances are that other spots on
the disk have been scribbled over as well. A good thing to do is to
have the output of "fdisk -l /dev/hdX" written down on a piece of paper
that's taped to the machine/in a safe place. With that information,
recovering a partition table requires nothing more than a rescue system
(look at http://www.toms.net/rb/ for a nice one.) Then you just fire up
fdisk from that rescue system, create a new partition table that's
exactly the same as your old one, and "W"rite it to disk. Reboot,
everything's back in working order. HTH,

Does "ls -l /dev/lp*" return something saying that /dev/lp0 is there?
It should.

Try executing the following commands:
insmod parport
insmod parport_pc
insmod lp

That loads the modules for generic parallel port support, IBM-PC style
parallel ports, and printer support. After that, you should be able to
echo things to /dev/lp0 and get some kind of response from the printer.

IIRC, some RedHat releases shipped with a defect in their module setup.
You may be able to fix this by adding the line
  alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
to the file /etc/conf.modules . HTH,

Does someone know what could be the problem?

XFree86 4.0 supports it (I believe). I have an ATI XPert 2000, I installed

Well, the thing to be said in defense of using a full sized distro is
that they tend to stay a bit more up to date, both performance and
security-wise. Of course, they tend to inherit more than their fair
share of serious bugs in that pursuit. But they are generally a little
easier to hunt down someone else who knows how they work when you need
help.

That said, I'd say go look at FreeSCO (www.freesco.org). It doesn't
have squid, but it is very capable, and from what I've seen, a whole
hell of a lot easier to configure than either a full distro, or LRP. It
can run on a floppy, or on a hard drive partition, and it is entirely
possible to set one up w/i ten minutes if you know your setup well.

I don't know if this drive will work with the Turtle Beach Montego II sound
card, but if you go to http://linux.aureal.com and view the readme.txt

with a downloadable driver from aureal. I am using the driver for my

Thats not sufficient AFAIR. You need to fdisk the disk first
and change the partition type to Linux Ext2.

Just add it to fstab and do 'mount -a' to mount all unmounted
(in this case new) partitions. This way you also can check whether
the entry in fstab is correct.

Dear all,
I cannot successfully install RedHat Linux 6.2. After I use the Disk
Druid to add the
Linux Swap and Linux Native, the
following warning is shown when I press "Ok":
Installation exited abnormally - receive signal 11
    Ejecting CD rom
You may safely reboot your system
I do not know what it means and whether it is related to the
hardware of my computer
or not. I had tried for many times and the same warning was shown. I do
not know how
to deal with it. My computer has the following configuration:

    Display Card: ASUS V3800 TNT2 AGP4X
    CPU: PIII 733EB
    RAM: 128MB PC-133
    Harddisk: IBM UDMA 100 20GB 7200 rpm
    Sound Card: Creative VIBRA 128

    Could anybody help?
    Thank you for your attention.
