Hello,
I have a PII 450 with mandrake 7.0 and a hp 612 printer. The printer
prints fine during tests and writing letters, etc. with star office, but
when i try to print web pages every 5 or 6 line wil be messed up. The
print on those lines is not lined up right?

Thank you for your time.

I am looking to find a standalone driver/source for the Adaptec 29160.
>From my research the best I can tell is with some rigging the aic7xxx
can be used, but I don't completely follow the discussion so I'm not
sure if this is entirely true. I would prefer to find a driver
dedicated or specifically defined for the Adaptec 29160. If you are
familiar with a driver that works in any versions of linux for this
device, please let me know anything you can about it. Thanks.

I had this problem also in x11amp but went into preferences and set the
output plugin to OSS, configured the plugin to speifically use my
soundblaster and it works fine.
Mind you the playlist comes up as E4@ E4@ - so I'm getting xmms 1.2.2 at

Gordon

My experience with recently released 3Ware W-6200 (2 Channel) under NT
4.0 WS has been a nightmare.

It has been impossible to create recognized NT System partitions on
anything but FAT16 partitions. Also tried copying images with PQ
DiskImage V3.02 to clean 3Ware setup. Tried JBOD and Raid0
configuration.

I have just spent 3 days trying to do what should have been a 2-3 hour
job. On a positive note, the 3Ware Tech people are competent and tried
to be helpful. Downside: Sometimes impossible to reach (ie: Last three
days - no returned calls).

Numerious 3W configuration attempts followed. Same results on NT
bootup to NTFS Partition - usually an NT BSOD or message: 'ntoskrnl.exe
missing or currupt'. Verified OS pointer info in boot.ini. Please
note NT on small FAT16 boot partition works fine.

FYI: Using two new and working IBM GXP75 30 GB.

This is not a flame. Just making folks alert to avoid my pain and loss
income in configuring this controller. I hope others are having better
results. Perhaps, depending on your OS - 'Your miliage may vary.'

To the best of my knowledge UMAX SUB scanners may never be supported on
linux, because of UMAX is unwilling to give out information to build a
driver. If you know different, let me know.

You mentioned FireWire. Is it also included in 2.4.x kernel? I have a mobo

which has no support for them so it would be nice if I can make them working

Incase minicom doesn't work (lock file? - I've had it not before), type this as
root: echo "+++" > /dev/ttyS0
If your modem is on "com2" then use ttyS1, etc. for a list of the dev's, just ls
/etc | less

well, if you are running an X server, if the XF86Config file gets messed
up, then that can happen. Sounds like your monitor is getting out of
range data. Could be the cord going to the monitor - mess around with it.
Or, (worst case) your power supply (in the monitor) cannot supply the
~10kv needed because the caps are bad or something. TRY ANOTHER MONITOR
before you toss it. And try it on another computer, too.

and there is also very useful idea

can find printer list

Also, I've used video cards where "left over" RAM could be used to
buffer font data, which should speed up rendering a fair bit. More
RAM is usually somewhat better than less RAM.

[Mind you, when I upgraded from an ATI 8MB board to a Voodoo with 16MB
of RAM, system performance suffered until I added 128MB of extra
system RAM; servicing that Voodoo board seemed to chew up around 32MB
of system memory...]

You might try saving the page as a Postscript file and then printing that

a work around. I don't know how to fix the problem.

Subject: Max Number of Serial Ports on one Machine
Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 01:07:27 GMT

Hello -

I am trying to figure out the maximum number of serial ports that I can
configure on a Linux box. Is there any utility, kernel parameter, kernel
source file, etc. that would tell me this information? Any assistance, or
pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
  John
