Try to download the NVidia-drivers from their homepage. These drivers
give you a module named "nvidia". This should work.

I tried to install Red hat 6.2 on an k6-2/500, 64M ram, ATI xpert98 AGP
video card, 15,3 G harddisk, using
a Gigabyte 5-GA motherboard. Note that i didnt have an OS on this system
so i booted straight from the
Red hAt cd-rom. Everything worked fine, until i was asked for video card
info, then suddenly my screen
turned black and the system froze.

Doesnt Linux support VESA 2.0, AGP...?

Of course it does. RedHat's X configuration, however, is slightly
br0ken. All the hardware you mention is certainly Linux-supported, so
the best advice I can give you is to do the install in text-only mode.
Once everything's been copied over to the hard disk, reboot, enter
"linux 3" at the LILO: prompt, log in as root, and run Xconfigurator.
Xconfigurator is somewhat flaky, but it works better than the automagic
X configuration in Redhat's graphical installer.

(connect drive)
modprobe parport
modprobe parport_pc
modprobe lp
modprobe imm (NOTE: Newer drives use imm, NOT ppa. Try imm first.)
modprobe scsi_mod
modprobe sd_mod

Once that's done, you should be able to access the drive via /dev/sda4.
Read the HOWTO again to find out how to make the process automatic so
you don't have to go through all that modprobing. Some people have said
that "lp" isn't required, but I've never been able to get imm to load
without having lp loaded first. HTH,

Subject: Can't hear sound when Dialing up with ltmodem
Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2000 20:14:14 GMT

I don't know what else to do. I've built a
Micron ZX laptop to be a dial-up IP-Masq firewall
for my company to use at events. (They can
connect about 5 machines at a time to the
internet this way without things getting too slow)

Anyway, I have tried setting the initialization
string to include L2 or L3 and I can't hear
anything. No dial-tone, no dialing, no chatter.

I even added in sound support to see if maybe it
would use the sound card to do it, but no luck.
Anyone have an idea. I know that the modem makes
noise under Windows 98.

I do get a message about unresolved symbols in
ltmodem.o, but everything else seems to work just
fine. I just want to have some sort of
indication of the progress when dialing up.

My current init string is this:
ATQ0 V1 L2 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0

Any help would be appreciated.

Any time I install RedHat I go through without probing or testing the
configuration. You can always run the setup manually when you reboot
after getting everything else working.

I've added L3 to the init string.

I've even added sound card support for my laptop.

I can dial up just fine, but I get no indication as to what is going on.
This is a real problem, because the laptop is being used in places that
may have long distance service turned off or require a '9' to dial out
or whatever and without being able to hear what's going on, this could
cause problems.

Any ideas? Has anyone else had this problem when using the ltmodem.o
supplied by lucent?

I can only confirm that the dialing sound is going through the sound
chip. You need to have the sound setup right. What sound chip do you
have? I got a ess1978 sound codec for the ltmodem.

Hi,

I set up a firewall from an old pentium 90, initially running RH6.0. 2
NIC's, 1 3C900 (which I know works perfectly), 1 unknown ne2000
compatible (very old). After a few days I found the machine to be getting
real slow, but top shows no process is using more than 3M. 40M in the
machine, and upon reboot only about 28M in use, and 0k swap. After a few
days free memory decreases and swap rises. After about 5 days, machine
becomes sluggish when you log in to it (you notice a lot of diskIO, and
it takes noticeably longer than normal). Rebooting the machine helps it
through another 5 days. I suspect or the hardware is bad (possible) or the
ne2000 driver leaks memory. I know that all the other hardware in the
machine used to work fine, the ne2000 card is the only new (well, old)
component. I upgraded to Mandrake 7.1, but the problem persists.

Anyone have similar problems??

I doubt it. We have several machines with ISA ne2000 running for weeks and
months. However, bad card can cause interrupts and log entries.

Greetings,

Did anybody have experience with this beast? I tried a number of
different software packages. Most of them either failed to even
recognize autoloader or refused to work with it. In most cases backup
just crashes when the tape is full without ever switching to the next.

In particular, I tried Arkeia, Novanet 8 and TapeWear (last two seem to
be the same product) as well as countless smaller apps. Any pointers
would be appreciated.

Can you get _any_ sounds from it at all?
(e.g "cat <soundfile>.au > /dev/audio")

If that works, do you get anything usefull from
"ldd -d /your/path/to/x11amp"
?

That's another good solution, but I'd first try and get x11amp to work
and _then_ install xmms. On the other hand, mayby the problem is in
x11amp itself...
