Hello.
I just bought a KT7 Raid board and an Elsa Geforce2 AGP graphics card.
I just received it in the mail so I haven't tried to set it up yet.
If you have any tips for me, I would more than appreciate. I don't
want to run into any problems when setting this pc up.
Thanks.

I have the HPT370 raid chip on an ABIT KT7. I have a question about
dual booting. The manual for the mobo specifies that I have to install
raid software under Windows to get raid working correctly. I am wondering
if dual booting is going to cause a problem. Do I need to enable raid in
my linux kernel? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Subject: Re: TurboLinux 6.0 install with a GeForce..Help Please or I will kill
Can you clarify the installation procedure for ME. I have a boxed Red
Hat 6.2 that I got working working on a 3-year-old, slow PC with an olde
video card. I'm about to buy a modern PC with some variety of an nVidia
GeForce.
Red Hat's web site says they support "GeForce" card but say nothing
about "GeForce 2" or "GeForce 2 GTS". Neither does the nVidia web
site. Dell, from whom I'm buying the PC, doesn't even offer support
Linux on this entire model line (or on most of their lines), so asking
them is pointless. So I cannot even tell whether these GeForce 2 cards
are supported by anybody anyhow.
(Like "AGP", I too am very computer literate -- although a neophyte at
Linux. And I, too, am beginning to understand why so few people are
using Linux. In fact, I am just beginning to realize what a monumental
achievement Microsoft made with Windows in supporting such an incredible
amount of hardware with ease, and often transparently to the person
installing the OS!)
The nVidia web site provides drivers

Has anyone gotten a f=ma brand NIC working under Linux? I have a PCI
10/100 NIC
that came with my cable modem service, and have no idea which driver to
use etc...
The default kernel with RedHat 6.2 does not recognize it, but when I
slap a 3COM 905
in, RedHat autorecognizes it, and loads drivers.
Anyone know what this card is?

Have you considered using another boot manager? try XOSL, for example,
which might provide a solution.(www.xosl.org).
Anyway, for lilo to find the partitions to boot, I think you must first
make the partition for win2k visible to linux so lilo can fint it's
physical address.

Well make sure your PSU (power supply) is up to the task. My 300W
isn't, I'm waiting for a decent replacement and will test a different
300W PSU tonight. You'll find a list of AMD-certified PSUs on their
site (www.amd.com).
IIRC the Geforce2 resolves some of the power problems the original
Geforce has, so maybe no problems there.
Should you run into boot problems: try setting a delay for the power-up
of the hard drive, that might help.
You can look at my progress in a thread in the newsgroup
alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit

sure thing. although my card, as i mentioned is just a plain GeForce,
the Geforce2 is the next generation accelerator, although i think that
the drivers for one should work for the other. im gonna try installing
again with VGA16 and in text mode. i will then ask for more help.
thanx.

Subject: VIA chipset
Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 15:25:16 GMT
Hi,
I am trying to get my on-board VIA sound chipset working. I know
the
latest kernel (i am using slack 7.1 with kernel 2.2.16) supports
it,
according to the Sound Howto. Well, I recompiled my kernel with
soundsupport, using 'make xconfig' and 'make bzImage'. After a
reboot,
there still seems no sound support. When I cat /dev/sndstat is
replies
with 'cat: /dev/sndstat: No such device'. How must I compile my
kernel
to get it in there? And... after that, how do I load those VIA
drivers?
The only VIA driver I see in 'make xconfig' is a codec, but lspci
-v
shows the same number, so I guess that's allright.
Plz help, I never had *any* sound in Linux, not even with my old
SB16
card.
TIA
Bart

I actually just got a Red Hat tech support person to answer my question
by phone (even though my 30-day phone support period had just expired).
He checked and reported that Red Hat Linux does NOT supporting the
GeForce 2 at present (although it does support the GeForce).
Of course, it may still be that nVidia's own drivers do support it. But
there seems to be no way to get to a human at nVidia. There web site
Linux driver tech support page gives links to computer manufacturers, to
whom questions are to be referred!

Maybe the "other leading brand OS" doesn't check for these
