No lost and found, nothing.
mount /dev/hdd give me an error message bad superblock or too many files
mounted.
It must not be there at all.
df shows /dev/hda1 as /boot and /dev/hda5 /
no /dev/hdb or /dev/hdd.
Is there a way to get /dev/hdb and /dev/hdd up and running?

HI
I've seen a very good deal on a PC which contains a Micro-Star MS-6340M
mboard.
Spec includes 32MB Savage 4 & AC '97 Sound On board.
Has anyone run Linux on this ?? - I'd probably want to use RH or
Mandrake.
Many Thanks

I had the exact same problem with a Promise ATA100 controller. I tried
different versions of lilo, different command line options, and read
every FAQ I could find. I eventually had to go with a different boot
loader. I found one on freshmeat.net. Forget the name of it now, but
it installs in the windows partition and actually has a GUI. You can
select the OS to boot with the mouse. Good luck.

Forget everything. I discovered the only way to get this card working
was is to configure the kernel with the following options:
CONFIG_SERIAL_EXTENDED=y
CONFIG_SERIAL_MANY_PORTS=y
CONFIG_SERIAl_SHARED_IRQ=y
and to just use standard port,irq,uart settings and skip the
multiport crap. Works fine now.

Hello
I've a Hauppauge WinTV card (based on BT848 Chipset). The card runs at my
linux, but there's no sound. Normally the sound is produced by hardware
through the line-out of the TV-card to the line-in of the sound-card. But
it doesn't work. I found the modules "tvaudio" and "tvmixer". I loadet them
with modprobe, but it had no effect.
What's wrong?

I am going to upgrade my linux machine on which I have redhat 7
installed. I need computing power, since I do theoretical physics and
have to do both numerical and symbolically intensive calculations.
I need at least 256 of ram and presumably a very fast processor.
Currently, my I have 96 mb of ram on a 233 mhz pentium cpu. My hard
drive is an ultra wide 9 gb scsi. I also have a 1.2 gb scsi I use as a
backup. My video card is an Elsa winner pro 2000, 4 mb and is 6 years
old.
I would like to solicit comments from more experienced user as to
their suggestions for an upgrade which is known to be compatible with
redhat. I am skeptical of the hardware compatibility list on redhat.com
since, for instance, my video card is listed as tier 1 but I have to go
through hoops to configure x windows.
Thanks to all for any help,

Maybe XOSL? Grub could also be an option, but it is a bit trickier than
lilo to set up.

The SCSI-HOWTO springs to mind. But just loading the appropriate driver

And which is it? It can't be all four!
Never heard of 'em. But you can go read the list of supported adaptec
cards in the documentation of YOUR kernel (I can tell you what mine
says, but that won't be of use to you). And you can also go to adaptecs
site and get their linux drivers.
Oh, well, this is from README.aha152x
COMPILE TIME CONFIGURATION (go into AHA152X in drivers/scsi/Makefile):
-DAUTOCONF

override for the first controller
-DSETUP1="{ IOPORT, IRQ, SCSI_ID, RECONNECT, PARITY, SYNCHRONOUS,

override for the second controller
blah blah.
LILO COMMAND LINE OPTIONS:

The normal configuration can be overrid ...
SYMBOLS FOR MODULE CONFIGURATION:
Choose from 2 alternatives:
1. specify everything (old)
aha152x=IOPORT,IRQ,SCSI_ID,RECONNECT,PARITY,SYNCHRONOUS,DELAY,EXT_TRANS
configuration override for first controller
aha152x1=IOPORT,IRQ,SCSI_ID,RECONNECT,PARITY,SYNCHRONOUS,DELAY,EXT_TRANS

2. specify only what you need to (irq or io is required; new)
io=IOPORT0[,IOPORT1]

Two problems here, first is that the promise raid cards are treated as
SCSI devices, and secondly, Promise's driver doesn't work under the
2.4.x kernels.
Mine works well under 2.2.18.

Just as a follow-up, since no one cared to respond.
I found a reference to the drivers being on ftp.promise.com, but not
visible through their web site. I snagged the bits there and compiled
them on my 2.2.18 system, and it works fine.
Since I'm playing around with this on a test machine, I'm now going to
yank the promise card out and run the internal software mirroring to
see how the bonnie++ figures compare between the two arrangements. I
have a sneaking suspicion the native kernel stuff is faster.

I want to switch to ISDN, but also like to know if someone has the Netcard 2
from KPN (Netherlands) up and running on Linux (preferrably Suse)?

Subject: sound modules
Date: Tue, 20 Mar 2001 20:02:27 GMT
I'm trying to run sndconfig but I keep getting a isapnp.conf error even
though I don't use my soundcard in PnP mode.I've never had trouble running
sndconfig before on my soundcard (it's an Aztech card.....a sound blaster
clone)but I believe it's because I have no sound modules loaded,I'm unsure
of which modules to load for my soundblaster compatible card. Can someone
tell me?
Thank you,mesc
