First of all, Thanks Mike !
So I reset the CONFIG_X86_PN_OFF option in "make config" as NO. After
recompiling, the booting procedure
seemed to be O.K.
After the hardware checking is done, like device checking, This
messages comes out.
"Freeing unused kernel memory : 68K freed
Kernel panic : no init found
Try passing init=option to Kernel".
I have no idea what's wrong.
Thanks!

Hi,
I am about to add a modem to 486 running Slack V3.0.
I seemed to remember that I have visited a site that lists
supported modems.I know I should have bookmarked it. I have tried
searching the www using various searches but in most cases the lists
are so long as to be impractical. At one site a list was found but it
was in ,gz form which will be ok one when I am running a modem and
access under linux. But my current internet access route is a windoze
machine.
I have various internal modems that I can use :-
ZOLTRIX RPI modem (14.4k)
GVC 28.8
Supra 33.6i
Cardinal Connecta 56K
I would prefer to use the later because I have one in a PC
that is no longer used for phone access.
From memory the Connecta was useable, but as mentioned
previously, I cannot find the web site again.
I also believe I can use the Zoltrix but by not using the RPI
function. Does anyone know how to disable the RPI function in the
modem when using Slack?
Once I get it running I will only using it to access
newsgroups and possibly an e-mail list (linked with linux).

Did you try to boot from the LS-120 like from an ordinary floppy drive?
Because Linux detects the LS-120 hardware without problems and will find the
media (e.g. floppy) if it's in it.

Boot your linux to single user mode (type "linux single" at boot prompt),
then try to configure your keyboard settings again.

To install lilo, you first need to edit /etc/lilo.conf, and then you have
to run /sbin/lilo to update the configuration. Lilo is recommended for
beginners, as it is much easier to configure than grub. However, grub is
more flexible. I once again refer you to the documentation I mentioned in
the previous post (http://www.kernel.org/LDP/HOWTO/mini/LILO.html). typing
"man lilo" at the prompt may also give you some help.
BTW, it would be nice if you did not quote all of the prevoius posts, as
this makes it much easier to locate your response :)

I have this same Creative drive and I am observing similar behavior.
I have compiled and booted 2.4.0-test8 kernel -- that did not help.
The results were essentially the same, although higher quality media
seems to perform slightly better. I am starting to think the Creative
6424 drive is a fragile drive.
I found some "suggested" patches for the sg module per the author Jorg
Schilling at his home page for cdrecord (found it on linux.org). I
have not yet applied the patches to the 2.4.0 kernel sources to test
them, however. I also ordered a mandrake disk from cheapbytes in case
I can't manage to get the redhat 6.2 version to work. BTW, I don't
see the "Uniform CDROM" driver in the RedHat build either.
