There's no sense in having two modems non-sharing an IRQ if you
can't use both of them at the same time. You could as well live
with two modems, then, instead of three. The whole point of
having several modems is to allow for several simultaneous connections -
which - as stated - is not possible.

Pointless. I wrote that you can't share an IRQ between two or
more ISA devices properly (which means using both of them at the same
time, of course). And you just have proven my point.

Thanks. I spent a bit of time looking at it afresh, after I'd posted the

know how to make a port available to receive such a file being transmitted ?

I'm having similar problems with a MVP3 based chipset, Quantum Fireball Plus
KX ATA66 disk, and a S3 86C325 Video adapter.
I'm having the same problems even without using the -d1 flag (make sure
you did not enable that by default in the kernel configuration options)
I would like you reply me to the following questions
What chipset are you using?
Do you enable specific kernel support for your chipset?
What PCI bus speed are you using? what is the CPU clock configuration? (eg:
4x100, or whatever)
What was the previous kernel you where running?
Thanks

Try posting the output of "X -probeonly", and we may be able to see what's

AGP is faster. Uses different connector. Works fine with Linux.
If you have an AGP slot, using an AGP card in it leaves a PCI slot
for something else.

I don't know whether it's relevant to your problem, but this sounds
like the kind of problem (with sound) I've had when IRQs are not assigned properly.
I think it also occurred when I used a duff version of modultils, but hopefully
RHI has avoided this one.

You don't say what hardware you have, so I just assume it's supported.
>Anyway, is ftape the only way for linux to access FDC (floppy disk

ftape is the only way, but there are several versions of the driver.
You should first try the one included in the kernel, ftape-3.04d I think,
unless it doesn't support your hardware (just try it).
You could also try my unofficial port of ftape-4.03pre2 to the 2.2.xx kernels,
available at http://www.csd.uu.se/~mikpe/linux/ftape/. I don't maintain
it any more since I got an IDE streamer, but this driver worked perfectly
for me throughout the Linux 2.1.1xx, 2.2.xx, and 2.3.xx kernel series.
(The reason I maintained it was that official ftape development seemed to
be dead for a _very_ long time, and I needed a working driver.)

No DMA channel? Could that be the cause of your overrun errors?
My /etc/modules.conf passes ft_fdc_dma=2 to ftape-internal.

I'll go one further. I don't know about prices in your part of the

passive terminator. I would always use an active terminator on both
ends of a SCSI chain.

Subject: Adaptec AVA1505 irq problem !
Date: 02 Oct 2000 10:39:50 -0500
Hi, All
i bought SCSI CD burnur which came with
AVA1505 card. It could wotk with io=0x140
or 0x340 (jumper switchable) and
irq 9,10,11 or 12 (could change it
using isapnp tools)
The problem is i do not have any of those interrupts
free.
9 is allocated for ethernet
10 is allocated for video
11 is allocated for sound
12 is ps/2 mouse
all above are PCI cards except ps/2 being on mb.
Anyway, if i try to set any of above irq by isapnp,
it complains that resource already in use. If i set
for example irq5 then isapnp works fine but i'm unable
to load module
Any ideas/help are greatly appreciated
thank you

Maybe your problem is that your 3c509b is set to plug and play mode.
Use your 3com configuration floppy to set the address to 0x300 and
IRQ to 10. Then tell your CMOS setup that IRQ 10 is used by an ISA card
and should not be given to any PCI card.
