It doesn't neccessarily look like a scanner to it and even less
a supported one. We have one here and I think last time I looked
it's not supported.

With tar, you'll have an endian issue reading sun3-written tapes on
Lunix (i386, I assume). At least that's what I saw reading tar tapes
from an NCR tpwer (68020) on NetBSD/i386.

Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2000 15:34:45 GMT

Hi guys,

Just installed latest Mandrake and it doesn't see my ehernet card. I
think it might be sharing the same IRQ with the video card or something
like that. Here's what is happening:

*If in console I type "dmesg" it gives me about 50 messages like this:

"Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?"
"Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 2d" (sometimes it says 3d)
"Dazed and confuzed, but trying to continue"

*If i type ifconfig eth0 it says:

"eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found"

*If I try to configure the ethernet card with mandrake config tool it
says:

"Device or resource busy."

Any ideas what the hell is happening? Any opinion would be appreciated.
If you know how I could see what Irq is allocated to each device please
let me know.

Thanx

I've not done this with RH 7.0, It's possible that they have altered thier
installation routine, or perhaps I'm not recalling the keystroke correctly.
It may not work if the installation is going directly to a graphical
install. It did work with the RH 6.2 install. You are trying alt-F2 before
making any selections, yes? I don't believe it will work after the install
has begun. If you purchased this from Red Hat you could call them and they
will tell you how to get a bash prompt. Otherwise, If you have another
Linux machine somewhere make yourself a basic boot disk (I'm not sure, I
think there is a utiltiy with RH "makeboot" or something that will do this
for you). Keep at it, this can be done.

Besides the things other posts said, make sure your SCSI IDs aren't
conflicting. Remember that your controller needs a SCSI ID as well as the
drives. If sda and the controller are both addressed as 0 you're going to
run into a load of trouble.

Hi,

I have some problems with writing CD-R under Linux (RedHat 7.0) using
'cdrecord' & Creative CDRW drive.

I made iso : 'mkisofs' - everything OK.
I mounted it - looks OK.
I tested (-dummy) : 'cdrecord' - everything OK.
I wrote (speed=4) : 'cdrecord' - everything seems to be OK.

But I can't mount this disk.

$ mount /dev/cdrom
.... wrong fs type, bad option, ... - standard error message.

I have no idea what's wrong.
Is it my fault? or cdrecord don't support RW8435E? (I did not found it
in compability list, but Creative CDRW8432 is in FAQ [5-1-26(or 27)])

Regards,
    Jacek

You'd need the PCMCIA support package
(http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/). The card must be specifically
supported - simply not having PCMCIA and USB support is not enough.

Is it possible to mount HP-formatted disks on a HP SureStore Optical
2600fx drive, and if so, by which fs type?

The hardware seems to be recognized, as /var/log/messages says:

Dec 10 19:06:10 f44sn10 kernel: Vendor: HP Model:

Dec 10 19:06:11 f44sn10 kernel: Detected scsi removable disk sdb at

Note, however, the C1113F. According to a label on the drive itself it
is a C1114F.

Anyone?

As far as I have been able to find out, there's only drivers for Win9x
for this card. Maybe Windows 2000 drivers exist for the successor of this
card, which is supposedly the same card with different software. Check
the site www.fast-multimedia.com.

Luck,

Also, check Xmixer or whatever sound mixer software you have to make
sure the lines are working. I have had some trouble with that and my
Pinnacle PCTV card [BT878]

Good Luck!

Hello All,

I have recently loaded a board which has on-board Chips and
Technologies 69030 chip. I'm using Red Hat Linux 7.0. During the
installation it does not give me an option for the C&T 69030 it only
goes up to C&T 69000. So I load Xwindows in VGA mode. I then
downloaded Xfree86 4.0.1 from Xfree86.org. I install it on my system
and run Xconfig. It does give me the option for C&T 69030 but when I
load it and do a test the system hangs. I've tried two different
Compact PCI Cpu boards from two different manufacturers. Both behave
the same. Has anyone run into this problem? Any ideas? Thanks all.

and I am running the stock 2.2.17-21 kernel that came with the distro.

Should I upgrade the kernel to 2.2.18? If so, does it require raid

What is the best way to change chunk sizes in a raid array?

Are there other parameters that can be changed for tuning purposes?

What is the best benchmark tool for ata harddisk io testing? i.e. is
bonnie good or should I use something better?

What are the best ways to recover from a power failure where the
filesystems do not unount cleanly?

If I am booting raid 1, which I am, how can I unmount /dev/md0 and

Thanks for any answers to the above.

Read docs about your Xserver (XF86_SVGA I guess) on www.xfree86.org and try
to set its specific options for maximum compatibility and enabling them back
one-at-time (i.e. no hardware acceleration code for first time)

I've got drivers here (AdvanSys.com)
http://www.connectcom.net/downloads/software/os/linux.html
And they work with DMX _3191D_ which came with Mustek Scanner
