I had the same problem with 6.2. I have an ABIT KT7RAID board, 2 ATA33
controllers, 2 RAID ATA100's. I moved my hard drive back to the ATA33 and
the installation no longer gave me the error message. I understand the
ATA100 is supposed to be faster, but, hey, it's so fast anyway, I can live
with it.

It sounds like USB (busmastering) problems. You may have to
check your kernel source documentation for late-breaking
information about configuring your USB interfaces since this is
recent, relatively 'bleeding edge' technology.

Unfortunately, neither Aztech nor Motorola will hand out details
about their chipsets and implementations, which is making it
impossible to write drivers.

Hopeless, unless the manufacturers provide either precompiled
modules (as PCTel did) or details about their products - which
is simply not going to happen anytime soon. Apart from that,
these software modems do not work reliably enough in a multitasking,
multiuser environment, anyways.

I have found out there the is a update driver for ATA 100 but,
i don't know how to update the patch file for linux RH 7 ,as i'm new to
it.
ide.2.2.16.20000630.patch.bz2 this is the file that i downloaded to make
my ATA 100 PCI card support my harddisk in LInux RH 7.
The problem is that i is in .bz2 ext how do i get it install?
I couldn't even install Linux RH 7 yet.

Not sure, as I did the installation in a different way -- I used the
alternate installation method, installing the actual source into the kernel
source, so that it got compiled the regular way, and dont need any serial
startup setup scripts etc.

I think it is easier to set up and use multiple soundcards
with the ALSA sound system (instead of the OSS system
provided with the kernel sources).
ALSA is the default in SuSE70. It may be configured with
yast2 or with the alsaconf-utility.
You also want to make sure that you have the updated
ALSA-packages (alsa, alsadev and alsadrv) from
http://www.suse.de/de/support/download/updates/70_i386.html

... and - if you compiled a new kernel - you will
need the updated ALSA source package to recompile
the ALSA modules, of course.

Yes, RH7, that's me ;).. Fortunately, my issues have been pretty minor
compared to a lot that I've read about here. Once you get xinetd figured
out the rest seems pretty easy.

Is the card detected at boot time/at all? Are you using a kernel that
has 1540/2 support built in? Dmesg output? What does the error message
say?

What happens if you do #mkfs /dev/fd0, before you try to mount the

Hi,

Is anyone using an external USB tape drive (i.e. Seagate external 20Gb
Travan tape drive) on a RedHat 7.0 using the out-of-the box kernel
(2.2.16-22)? If so, how is it working? If it isnt't working, why not? Can
you plug it in and out without rebooting?

Thanks in advance,

Nathan

Actually, I am now running mandrake 7.2, which comes with builtin support

The problem with linksys is that they change the card to a new revision and
do not actually change the card name. For example, the 4.1 card is
completely different from the 2.x version of the card. It would be better if
they actually changed the model of the card instead of the revision. For
example, a 3c590 is different from a 3c509. The driver and the card
architecture are different. The LNE100TX rev 2.0 is different from a rev
4.1, requires a different driver as well. Just know that the card revision
number is important and sometimes the revision does not even tell you that
the architecture has changed requiring a different driver.
