Sort of related but a bit beyond your needs. I got a Global Networking
catalogue through the post this morning, never seen this one before
so I had a flick though with a cup of tea while taking a break.

What caught my eye was a HP SureStore DLT1. This appears to be a DLT80
drive but for less than a grand! What's the story with these drives
and how come you can get a DLT drive for a third of the price not so
long ago?

It's a winmodem. Get a real modem. Or at least a winmodem based on
the LT chipset. There are drivers for that.

Ypu might try to use the modem command with an X3 somewhere (I'm not sure
where, but i think it is ATX3DT21312064)
This should do it.

Sammy,

First of all, as the hp970 is not supported in gs5.50, you need to add
the support to your ghostscript binary before you get to the driver you
got from linuxprinting.org

Id suggest you should first stop by the ghostscript site

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghostscript

to get the latest stable version (currently 6.5), with utilities and
fonts,
and then go to Rens site http://www.harsch.net to get the ghostscript
driver for the hp970.

Rens site is in german, but gives a very good point for point
explanation on how to make a ghostscript binary that supports your
printer.

When you have a working gs binary that supports your printer, I would
guess your problems with the lpdomatic scripts should be straightenend
out as well.

If you still cant get the scripts to work, maybe you should take a look
at apsfilter (http://www.apsfilter.org), which may be easier to set up,
and that has excellent support for the 970c series printer.

Good luck!

Knut.

When you compiled the SMP kernel was the source properly patched with
the Hedrick ide patch? The 12/21 patch for 2.2.18 seems most sturdy.

Which means to me that the source for the UP kernel was patched. Did
you install the Gentus linux that came with the mobo and perhaps add a
second processor later?

The 2.4.1 kernel source has support for both off board and on board eide
(udma 66/100) controllers. BTW are you one of the lucky ones not having
problems with the HPT 366 controller? I disconnected mine (Abit bp6
also) and plugged in a pci Promise 100.

If this is ALI M5451 then this is not these but 'trident' - as strange
as it may sound. A support for that in trident module showed up
fairly recently - 2.2.17, I think but maybe earlier.

Something like that from 'dmesg' (details what is supported depend
on your hardware):

Trident 4DWave/SiS 7018/Ali 5451 PCI Audio, version 0.14.6a, 20:31:03 Jan 8 2001
trident: ALi Audio Accelerator found at IO 0x10000, IRQ 10
ac97_codec: AC97 codec, vendor id1: 0x0000, id2: 0x0000 (Unknown)
ac97_codec: Secondary ac97 codec not present

Put something like that:

alias sound-slot-0 trident
options sound dmabuf=1

in our /etc/modules.conf.

I'd like to connect a second printer to my office machine
running RH 7.0. I'm considering purchasing a parallel port
card since my only parallel port is occupied by my existing
printer.

Will any low end parallel port card work? I looked in the
Linux-parport archives, but found mostly discussion about
specific devices that could be connected to the port, not
about the port itself. I already know that my printer is
supported via ghostview, but I'm confused about how to
determine whether the parallel port card itself would be
supported.

Thanks for any tips.

I'm using one of those cards now, but on a non-SMP box, XFree 4.0.1,
kernel 2.4.0 (and it worked on 2.2.18 previously. Both were actually
acSomething versions). I think I've had this problem before. The problem is
that either the GLX or the module (I forget which) isn't being detected.

When you type "lsmod", do you see a line like this:
Module Size Used by
NVdriver 610288 11 (autoclean)

In your XF86Config, is there a line like this in the "Module" section:
Load "glx"

In modules.conf, is there a line like this:
alias char-major-195 NVdriver

Also, what version of binutils are you using? For SMP compiles, the
nVidia FAQ says you need 2.9.5 or higher. That doesn't explain the non-SMP
problems, but it might help.

Finally, are you completely, 100% sure that all MesaGL libraries are
gone from your system? Look in /lib, /usr/lib and /usr/X11R6/lib for any
links to libMesaGL lor libglwrapper.

                                                              Marcus

Some of these new drives ( and I don't know anything about the HP one ) use a
DLT
cartridge at a much lower (sometimes variable ) speed thus the price
reduction.

The original poster might want to check out www.storagecentral.com for

I use Byte Runner cards and have had no problem. I'm currently
using a 4 Serial 2 Parallel card. The serial ports share a single
irq and took a bit of setting up, but no extra software. The
parallel ports just plugged in and ran. I believe the dual parallel
PCI card that's available (~$45) will share an irq; I'm not sure
about the ISA.

I've been running a D815EEA with a 800mhz P3 for 6 months on Redhat 6.2
with no problem. I did download EEPRO drivers from INTEL and compile
them and replace my netdriver.

However, after upgrading to Redhat 7.0 my disk access has become very
slow. I'm trying a clean install now.

Mmm, swap is a seperate partition now, but not on that drive, which I

this driver. Has anyone else gotten this particular NIC to work w/
linux?

By building a DEBUG version of the driver, I got the following from
/var/log/messages after running 'ifup eth0':

The card works fine under WinMe on the same machine.

Help, please!

This card works fine under almost any linux install, including Mandrake 7.2
using the standard 3Com 3c59x module. I am using it under Mandrake now and
use it under other installs regularly. You shouldn't need the driver from
3com.
