If you access the tape via [n]st0 it may understand scsi command. Have
a look at 'mt'.
That tool allows you to set compression, format, blocksize,...

Setup RH6.0 on a Proliant 1500. It did not recognize the installed memory.
Had to add a line in Lilo -- append="mem=xxxx". At least that is what I
remember. It was some time ago.

Hope this helps,

Dustin

If /dev/st0 and /dev/nst0 do what they're supposed to do, then you do
not need any other devices at all. Check the man page for the "mt"
command for the datcompression option, as well as many other things that
might be useful. HTH,

Hi all, I've just upgraded kernels for my RH7 system. I moved from
2.2.16-22 to 2.2.17-14. Now I'm trying to get my tv card working again.
It's one of those bt878 cards (no 10 in the list). After starting off in
the new kernel and make modules{_install} AND upgrading the bttv (the one
that comes with the kernel is oldddd) to v0.7.56, I can't get the tv card
working.

depmod -a gives:
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/bttv.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/dpl3518.o

modprobe bttv (as root) gives:
/lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/bttv.o: unresolved symbol i2c_master_send
/lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/bttv.o: unresolved symbol i2c_bit_del_bus

/lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/bttv.o: unresolved symbol i2c_master_recv
/lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/bttv.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/bttv.o failed
/lib/modules/2.2.17-14/misc/bttv.o: insmod bttv failed

I have the kernel options 'set kernel version number in modules' thingy to
'N'

Any ideas?

The problem is more basic than this. I downloaded the disk and read the
instructions. Apparently you have to get past the point where my
computer hangs before you can deal with this controller. Anyways, I've
removed the promise controller from the computer and have tried
installing while the harddrive is using the onboard controller. Still I
get the same problem.

Is there a way to let RedHat.com know of this problem -- it may have
something to do with an incompatible motherboard or something. I
downloaded the OS from their FTP site so I don't have a product ID and
cannot get any support from them because of that.

Most BIOSes have an option somewhere to set the geometry/CHS translation
type of any IDE drives that may be connected. If you're not booting off
the 40G drive, it doesn't matter what the BIOS thinks the geometry is,
so you could try to set it to "NORMAL" mode. The BIOS will think the
drive is 528M (!) while Linux will not be fooled and will use the whole
capacity of the drive. Just to be safe, boot the system to single-user
mode the first time you try this, and make sure the 40G drive appears OK
and such. HTH,

http://linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/ and look for the Hard-Drive Upgrade HOWTO.
Lots of stuff is discussed. Ghost is not necessary at all, and I
wouldn't bother with it anyway. While you're looking on the Net, go by
http://www.toms.net/rb/ and pick up something just in case you have
problems that require a Rescue System.

I already have the DPC equipment. So that would be my first choice to use
as I am on a budget. Starband is not available in the area YET. And, to be
honest, I have not checked the other two yet. I think the posts here have
indicated that Nebulink and Fast@XS are more expensive. I will check into
them on my own.

Can you answer my original question? Do any of the broadband solutions that
might be available to me (e.g. Fast@XS, Nebulink, Starband, etc.) work under
the Linux OS. I will see what I can find out from Helious.

Personally, I am really tired of the windblows mantra . . . Reboot ...
uninstall/reinstall ... reboot . . .
