Oops, forgot to mention. In my /etc/rc.d/rc.local I have:
modprobe joy-analog
to go with the two links in /etc/modules.conf.
That way the joystick module gets loaded before the joy-analog module. In your
case you may need modprobe joy-sidewinder. Also, you may need to run depmod -a
from root so your module dependencies are built correctly. When doing a kernel
build make modules_install the make does a depmod -a for you normally but if
you don't have the /boot/System.map symlink set up to point to your current
kernel it will find the dependencies for your previous kernel if you have
changed versions.
And as Matt G pointed out, investigate the 0x0033 if you are going to use
joy-analog, it most likely should be 0x02ff or 0x08f7 depending on whether the
joystick is CHF mode or FCS mode, respectively.

Not with the 2.4 kernel, but to get it working with the 2.2 kernel i
needed to snag the updated driver source (downloadable from netgear,
and probably elsewhere) & recompile.
The driver & source provided with the card seem to have been for a 2.0
kernel...

so, I would be grateful for some help.
I have managed 1024x768 @85Hz and also 1280x1024 but at a
refresh rate of only 60Hz (which is quite hard on the eyes).
I am running Redhat 7.0 with Xfree86 V4.0.2 with the Nvidia

Since you've already been told why you can't do it. Here's what you can
do:
mkdir /mnt/cdrom_udf
Add to /etc/fstab:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom_udf udf ro,users,noauto,exec 0 0
That way you can 'mount /mnt/cdrom_udf' as a user.

I have a similar problem, I have an HP optical jukebox, but I can't get
any software for the changer to work, it would just get errors, since the
commands it sends are different. I finally decided to write my own.
ATL might have a SCSI command reference on their website like HP does. Also,
MTX might work if you don't have any software. You will probably have to
make a device for the changer itself, or use one of the SG* devices,
probably it would be /dev/sga. There is a driver for scsi librarys with
the robot on a different id, try looking for "Linux SCSI changer
driver".

Contact US Robotics, and ask them to either write a Linux driver for this
Winmodem, or release the specs so that an open-source driver can
be written.

I don't know of any problems with that chipset. I see it is set to scsi
id 0, does anything change if you use a different id?

Subject: Banshee compatibility

Hello,
I am a new user of Linux. I have brought my Linux Mandrake 6.0 for more than
a year. However, I usually come with a problem in working the Linux with my
video card of Voodoo Banshee. I do not expect my Linux system to run in 3D
acceleration; however, I do wanna it to run with full utilitization of my
monitor screen. I have download a driver from developer site of Creative and
try to install it, but it doesn't work.
Would anyone kind enough to teach me how to install the Banshee driver step
by step? Please step by step because I am a new user of Linux though I
brought it for more than a year. To run it smoothly is always my hope in
this year.
Would you also please tell me whether new Linux kernel support USB
peripherals like USB modem or USB scanner? I know there was no official site
for these stuff; however, any self-made driver for these peripherals?
Thanks for your help.

I've noticed a few messages here about this subject, but I yet have some
questions.
My system uses RedHat 7.0 with the 2.4.1 kernel which I compiled for
this system.
How can I determine the version of XFree86 on my system?
I also found matrox's readme file rather confusing. I'm rather new to
compiling pieces of the kernel (I barely survived the 2.4.1 upgrade) or
other packages, such as XFree86. What is matrox referring to in the
readme with the "/xc/..." directory? No such thing exists on this
system.
Thanks,

Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 19:53:48 -0000
Just got some feedback from Zoom Technical Support and ELSA Technical
Support on which if any of their USB modems are supported under linux.
Zoom Modems
Summary: Are any of you usb modems complient with the USB communications
device class ...
SUGGESTED SOLUTION:
At 02/21/2001 10:13 AM we wrote -The only usb model that is known to
work at this time is the model 2985 USB Dual Mode. This was only
tested with SuSE Linux 7.0. No tests have been done with the 2.4
kernel at this time. There will probably be more support in the
future as we further develop our v92 series of modems.
Regards,
R. Hubbard
Zoom Technical Support.
ELSA modems
We actually don't make any Linux support.
However the Microlink 56K USB is supported by the standard ACM driver and
Kernel 2.4.0.
The test has been made on SuSE 6.4
But the Fun edition of this modem hasn't been tested yet.
