But I hadn't found in the Web anything about slr100 + linux.
We are going to buy a streamer and don't want to waste money.

How can I check this? My monitor is a HP A4576A and it is not listed.

Well, it is there, but without ".0" at the end. But this shouldn't matter?

Tnx for your help.

I have to apologize. The information I gave was wrong. I used to run
xmms as root because of some issues with my mounted file systems. So it
was not xmms, but rather the account I used for logging in.

To summarize: Sound works only for root. For a normal user everything
remains silent (even xmms).
The permessions for /dev/dsp and /dev/sndstat are rw for all users. Do
you know any other permissions that have to be set?

> Which output plugin are oyu using for xmms?
OSS, esound both work (only for root, though).

There is support for Kodak DC series, but I haven't seen any for EZ-200.

Hi,
has enyone been able to program the POTS port of this card?

The de.alt.comm.isdn4linux news group has not been able to supply
an answer. Either did the isdn4linux source.

I have searched the net for documentation for the registers on
the Winbond 6692 chip and found w6692aa1.pdf, but reading it did
not give me the answer to be able to enable and to program MSN

Any pointer is very welcome.

Dear All . . .

With the modern nuclear family across America and the world, my parents are talking
about everyone getting WebCams or Video Conferencing Cameras . . .

They could not find any in the shops which mention Linux Compatible and also I have
found little of use on various sites and searches on this. (Apart from
http://www.crynwr.com/qcpc/ or
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/hardware/ezwebcam.html )

1) Recommendations on which to get!

2) Is the hardware called WebCam, or is that just the application? Called video
conferencing camera? How do you search for it?

3) I assume the USB port is the best interface for these, eh?

4) I have seen a few projects to create Linux drivers for these. So they cannot be
mostly compatible. What is the situation?

Thanks for any info to help me get started on this!

I have quite good luck with USB cameras. Go to linux-usb.org and look
up the status. I had to be very careful when picking cameras to get

If so, can I get the vendor and model numbers for the video card(s)

AMD T'Bird 850
512M PC133 RAM
30G Maxtor ATA/100 HD

I have the 2.4.2 Kernel installed and the system boots but
if I have any large disk accesses then the system locks and
I have to hard reboot to get it back.

I have tried putting the hard drive on the primary IDE(ide0)

same way.

If someone else wants to try this, I am consistantly able to
get the system to lock when I run "bonnie++"(a hard drive

Subject: Ack! Newbie linux sound troubles
Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 08:21:44 -0700

Hi everybody,

Sorry about the last posting, now I REALLY feel like an idiot (just
kidding of course). Anyway, this is the message I tried sending to
everybody regarding some mandrake linux installation woes:

Thanks for being patient.

I tried lurking and finding a solution to my problem this way, but that
didn't seem to do the trick. So, here I am, with a newbie question
regarding the installation of my sound card in mandrake linux.

What basically happens is as follows:

In KDE, after I first installed linux on my machine, I used DrakConf to set
up my Vibra Soundblaster 16. I used the same irq and dma values that I have
in windows and it worked just fine. However, upon rebooting the computer,
the sound no longer worked. W hen I tried using DrakConf to install the
card again in KDE I got the following error:

sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': Device or resource busy

Finally, even stranger, I do not get this error when I attempt to install
the sound card in gnome, windowmaker, or any of the other environments.
However, even if I use these other environments to configure the sound
card, the sound never continues workin g after I reboot the machine.

So far I've attempted the following to solve my problem (based mainly on
reading this newsgroup and others):

1. Run sndconfig as root and in console mode. While the installation, once
again, went without problems, this did not solve my problem.

2. I also followed the how-to guide and ran pdpdump which I later
configured. Once again, this didn't solve the problem.

3. Finally, I tried to change the permissions of /dev/dsp in case the
problem had to do with how they were set. Once again, this didn't help, but
it did lead me to another problem which I think may be related to why I
cannot get sound.

It seems that after I shutdown or close from the windows, the file
permissions I set did not stay set in their new configuration. Hence, I set
the permission to 660 (read and write for user and group) and the next
thing I knew, it was back to only read a nd write for user.

I used dmesg to see whether there were any warnings and found that there
was something wrong with my partition table (I am appending the output of
dmesg to the end of this message).

I suspect that the problem is that the things I've been saving with respect
to the soundcard are either saved and overwritten or not saved at all. This
is just a guess mind you, I would appreciate any help in fixing this
problem since it is distressing.

I'm running Mandrake 7.2 (2.2.17-21) on the following machine: A Pentium
166 with 64 megs of RAM @ BIOS 13.5 gig harddrive in which windows 95 is
running on the first partition (around 8 gigs worth) and linux is riding on
the remainder 5-6 gigs. A matrox mystique graphics card. The computer is
acting as a personal workstation (I'll probably have questions for you
folks later when I try to get this thing connected to the school's slirp!).

The soundcard is a Vibra SB16 set for IRQ 5, DMAS 0 and 1, and an I/O range
of 220,330, and 338. The install programs tell me that there are no
conflicts with these addresses.

Anyway, as promised, here is the output of dmesg.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

I have a similar system, and can't reproduce your problem.
Motherboard and RAM are the same, processor is a T'bird 1GHz, drive is
a Maxtor 54098U8 40GB ATA/66 on the VIA controller. I've updated to
2.4.2, and compiled bonnie++. It works.

The difference seems to be ATA/100 vs ATA/66. Try forcing UDMA mode4?

Now, I can buy any joystick, I don't care, but I just
happen to have this one.

I have done a insmod joystick.o and it loaded in the

I get an error "no such device".

What do I have to do to get joystick support enabled?
I'm basically just trying to use a joystick with MAME

All the documentation online is less than helpful, it
seems. Anyone have a joystick working with Linux and
MAME? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Iomega Ditto 2GB Input/Output Error

I'm trying to get a Ditto 2GD external tape drive working.
I'm running a 2.2.13 kernel and compiled ftape 4.04. The modules seem
to load okay and ftmt -f/dev/qft1 status produces the expected result.

When I attempt to retension the tape or do anything else to it, I get
an I/O error. Here's an extract from messages:

 ftape-buffer.c (add_one_buffer) - buffer nr #1 @ d1e06d00, dma area @ d20cb000.

Does anyone have any idea what's going wrong?

see
  http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/aironet-utils-linux
for the driver sources for the 340 - this should also work on the 350 series.

Whoops! The new (older) video card did not fix the problem: it just changed
the symptoms. The monitor now goes into standby sometimes; but, still will
eventually lose the signal. I've even tried a different monitor with the
same results???
