A LOT of people are getting this error, and not just on Linux. I'd say
there's a problem with cdrecord. I'm using 1.9-3, which is the latest for
Linux-Mandrake. I use to have Redhat 6.2 on the same box (same
box/hardware) and gtoaster worked. Under Linux-Mandrake 7.2, it doesn't.

Does anybody have experience using firewire with linux?

Is it supported at all? Could you boot from a firewire device
(such as a disk)?

Thanks in advance for any answers, including pointers to
hardware compatibility guides which discuss the issue.

But the Zip drive isn't the last device on the bus. I knew enough to
turn off termination on the Zip drive before powering up. :-)

Although I say Zip it's actually a Zip 250 rather than the original 100.

I dug depp into their site. The only caveats I can find are that Zip
drives (of either type) aren't gaurenteed to work with Ultra controllers
and the documented one that only device numbers 5 and 6 can be used. If
what you are saying is try then isn't there a case in English consumer
law for "unfit for purpose"?

I have a M-System's "Disk on Chip". I compiled kernel 2.4.1 which has support
for it. I tried booting up my system with this thing plugged in PCI and the
machine would not boot.

What I want to do is just boot up as normal and then maybe mount this thing
so I can see what is on it. I am just curious.

Can someone tell me how I can boot up with this thing in and then mount it?
Or is there something else I have to do?

Once I have mounted it how do I look around on it is it just like a directory
where I can do ls or whatever?

Ok, I hadn't heard about the IDE problem, though I can't understand why you'd
want to use IDE anything (except CDROM perhaps) on a board of that type.

And, yes SW doesn't seem to want to disclose some information, thought from
what I've read, it seems that they're willing to give out small amounts of
specific info; just not their entire proprietary setup. We'll see what happens.
