Someone suggested I try the Galeon browser, so since it appears on the Mandrake 8.1 KDE menu, I decided to try it. When it didn't load, I decided to try from the command prompt so I could see if there are any error messages. I got a list of 12 error messages about missing files - I include one of them here.
[root@shlomo1 root]# galeon ************************************************** nsNativeComponentLoader: SelfRegisterDll(/usr/lib/mozilla/components/libmime.so) Load FAILED with error: libmsgbaseutil.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I looked in the relevant directory and found that **despite** the error message, the files do exist. Here's a sample. [root@shlomo1 root]# cd /usr/lib/mozilla/components [root@shlomo1 components]# ls -la libmi* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 56652 Apr 9 2001 libmimeemitter.so* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 214644 Apr 9 2001 libmime.so* It occured to me that since the **missing** files are all mozilla files, that I should try mozilla (which I've never used). It also refused to load from the KDE menu so I tried from the command prompt and got the following error message: [root@shlomo1 root]# mozilla Error sending command. I have no idea what this means either. Mozilla is installed. [root@shlomo1 root]# ls -la /usr/bin/moz* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4819 Sep 21 13:39 /usr/bin/mozilla* Reinstalling both Galeon and Mozilla from RPMs didn't change anything. I looked on Google for the Galeon error and found something **similar** refering to loading of PNG files, but the problem was not the same as mine and the suggested solution involved re-compiling Galeon - I don't think this is relevant for me since I'm using binaries from Mandrake and I assume they do work. The system is Mandrake 8.1 and all the RPMs are also Mandake 8.1 - freshly downloaded from a Mandrake mirror. [root@shlomo1 root]# ls /tmp/*.rpm /tmp/galeon-0.12.1-2mdk.i586.rpm /tmp/mozilla-0.9.4-3mdk.i586.rpm Any ideas? //------------------------- Shlomo Solomon E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://come.to/shlomo.solomon Date: 25-Jan-2002 Time: 10:28:45 Message sent by XFMail on a LINUX Mandrake 8.1 machine //------------------------- ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
