This is probably the problem Amir Tal sees: The boot from CD is actually done by a the bios using a part of the CD to emulate a Floppy/HD. 1.44 Floppy images are probably supported by most bioses that can boot from CD, but 2.88 and more so HD images are problematic with many bioses. Award bios reports what type of boot image it sees, so if Amir can check which types the CDs that boot use, and which types the non booting CDs use, it might shed some light on the issue. -- Matan Ziv-Av.
