Title: RE: Netvision, or I need a new ISP

Have you tried Actcom ??

A big part of their ISP services are Linux based and they provide static IP to anyone with a permenet connection (both cable and ADSL).

They are also very helpful with thier support team and fairly cheap.

Subject: Netvision, or I need a new ISP

Hi,

I've had it with Netvision and am looking for a new ISP.

My reasons:

        1. Their lines often go down on shabbat and are not fixed until
late that night. I don't use the line on shabbat, but my mail
server does (collects mail from the states) and sometimes  I set
           up long downloads.

Often around 2pm Saturday their lines crash, and don't get fixed
           until midnight.

        2. Customer service does not open until 8:30 in the morning.

        3. When I get customer service, because I have a linux box, ANY
           complaint is ignored.

        4. If they can ping me, then all is ok, no one wants to hear about
90% packet loss to the states. :-(

        5. The customer support manager is always busy and NEVER takes
calls He won't return them either.

One support person told my son it "was not her job", but did
not offer to follow it up, or froward his call. It was just
not her job and that's it.

In all fairness when I actually get a linux person on the phone,
they have been helpful, called back when they said they would, etc.

        6. They have a range of IP addresses that they use, many of which
are not listed as assigned to Netvision and they rotate among
them. This is a problem as the person who collects my email
does it as a favor to me and I hate to call him and ask him
to allow another IP address range.

6a. They do not and will not give me a static IP, though I had
the same one from Aug 20 until last Saturday.

So I'm looking for an ISP. I would like the following (in order of preference):

        1. STATIC IP!!!! (must have, will pay).
        2. 1.5mbit cable (I have 750k now, might as well upgrade).
        3. Linux support.
        4. 24/7 or at least 24/5 + Friday to close to Shabbat and Motzi Shabbat
           support.
        5. Customer support people who are ploite. IMHO it would be too much
to ask for someone who actually "gave a ****", but if they should
           at least act like it.
        6. Customer support people who speak English.

BTW, if you're out there Netvision, give me a static IP and I'll suffer the rest.

TIA, Geoff.
