What happens when you connect from a remote shell (try ssh with X forwarding to avoid xauth dirty work) and run programs from the shell? * simple X programs? * KDE programs (kedit etc.) * kpanel, or whatever problematic component? * startkde ? Also: where does the output of KDE programs go? It is redirected through sockets, which makes it a bit difficult to follow. > > KDE is a bit problematic with some commercial X servers. BTW: XFree is also available on windows (as part of cygwin: http://cygwin.com , http://xfree.cygwin.com ) Maybe it can help with testing. > > I tried StarWin-32 latest version on Windows 98 connecting to my Red Hat 7.3 > machine, and it seems that in "single mode" it works fine, but not in "multi > mode". (Actually, in such "multi mode" a complete desktop is quite inconvinient. A simple shell login can be much faster and take less screen real-estate.) -- Tzafrir Cohen mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.technion.ac.il/~tzafrir ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
