Well, thats a big package to install just for displaying X, isn't it? ;)

True.

The Commercial X servers are really lagging behind XFree. I didn't see many 
commercial X servers supporting LBX, and NONE of them support the newer stuff 
- XRender, XCursor, XDND, Anti Aliasing etc. My guess is that they're used to 
work like the old Unix days.. when was X11R6 released and what is the date 
today?

BTW: CodeWeavers are hacking now cygwin's X server to have fast rootless X 
support and they'll roll all their modifications back in the near future. 
(it's for their CrossOver server)
