You're talking about the SSLeay C-library that indeed predated OpenSSL.
I was talking about the Crypt::SSLeay perl package, which implements SSL
needed for doing HTTPS in LWP (Lib WWW Perl). This Crypt::SSLeay indeed uses
the OpenSSL library installed on your system, not the antique SSLeay, so
indeed its choice of name is unfortunate.

In any case, the good news was that this Perl package is no longer needed for
sending SMSs to Cellcom phones :)
