I was talking about the Crypt::SSLeay perl package, which implements SSL needed for doing HTTPS in LWP (Lib WWW Perl). This Crypt::SSLeay indeed uses the OpenSSL library installed on your system, not the antique SSLeay, so indeed its choice of name is unfortunate.
