I will profess a bit of ignorance here.

SSLeay has not been maintained for YEARS. It has, instead, been renamed to "openssl", which is almost universally available. Why insist on using the old version?

You're talking about the SSLeay C-library that indeed predated OpenSSL.
I was talking about the Crypt::SSLeay perl package, which implements SSL
needed for doing HTTPS in LWP (Lib WWW Perl). This Crypt::SSLeay indeed uses
the OpenSSL library installed on your system, not the antique SSLeay, so
indeed its choice of name is unfortunate.

As promised, I proffesed a bit of ignorance!

Thanks,
