Is this start time?

Can you compare it to a different distro on the same machine?

Can you try to time different phases of the start process?

* the load of the kernel
* initrd (if there is)
* the initial rc scripts (comparable to rc.sysinit on redhat/mandrake
  and rcS.d on debian)
* the current runlevel scripts
* If the machine is a desktop: the desktop startup
