1st, try looking inside X config. There are options for ignoring alt+ctrl+backspace, and prevent people switching to another VT. the config in my mandrake is quite documented, I hope yours is documented as well. I also assume you can RTFM.
I wrote also in the original mail how I got to the conclusion this is not an X bug.
If the problem does not exist in KDE then it must be something that gnome is doing...
