Pardon my ignorance, but why doesn't this person just buy a Macintosh?
They might be slightly more expensive, but they have a very
easy-to-use OS - and it's certainly not Windows...

because sadly in Israel we have a monopoly on the matter. a company
called Yeda has the sole right to suck all the fun out of using a mack.
that includes very high prices, problematic service, macs are never sold
from stock, only by preorder (and shipment can take a few weeks to a
couple of months). They also have not promoted macs in the media for
probably a decade. In fact it's unclear how they are still in business
since it feels like all they are doing is try to kill the Mac market in
this country and diss every mac addict.
I'll tell you why. Did you ever visit weizmann institute?
Half of the computers there are Mac, if not more.
Most of the prof's have Mac laptop.
Also look at the GRAFIKAIM, that cann't work if the mouse isn't transparent.
Now as you know, every comp there cost twice as normal pc.
Myself, i would like to have Mac laptop, but every time i check this option, i understand that its better to go with ibm and its friends, because of money and performance.

to demonstrate, when Jobs pulled the iMac out of the bag and in the following year the mac market share went from 3% to 10% in the US, In Israel they dropped from 1% to 0.3%. even lower today, I am sure.
