Actually Python was named after Monty Python, not the snake.
I consider this one of its few readeeming qualities ;-) 

BTW, the Feb. 2005 meeting of the Israeli Perl mongers will feature a
1 hour lecture/discussion by former Perler and present-day Pythonist
Liraz Siri, titled "Why Python is in Your Future". Here's the meeting
