rpmdrake allows you to search in names of packages, descriptions or files - it done that for ages - as far as I can remember using rpmdrake, it had that option.Oh, you mean - like urpmq ?
urpmq is 'apt-cache search -n' . apt-cache search also searches the description. 'apt-cache search jabber' will also list gaim and kopete.
also check out the large search box at the top of the rpmdrake interface - you can't miss it :-)
I didn't deal with rpmdrake much, but I vaugely recall it wasn't there
as well.
As far as I can tell urpmq only allows you to search in names. I assume rpmdrake uses some sort of perl URPM interface that urpmq could access just as well, but no such interface is detailed in the urpmq help file.
I don't have that specific command installed as part of apt on my system (apt4rpm), so I cannot attest at its capabilities but IIRC the Debian installer has a horrendus UI (even the "new" one which I tested recently) and while I don't remember configuring apt there, I doubt it is much useful for the not-so-linux-proapt-setup
(This is also what is run at system install time)
