This is not as funny as you think - in fact, if Iran officially changed
its name to the phrase "Iran, Humeini Inshalla", then ISO will most likely
adopt this name and we'll start seeing it (among other places) in Debian
installers.
Look at other countries on ISO's list:

"Brunei Darussalam" (loosly translated as "Brunei, home of peace"),
"Congo, The Democratic Republic of the" (democratic? really?)
"Falkland Islands (Malvinas)" (decide - is it Falklands, or Malvinas??)
"Iran, Islamic Republic of" (they had to advertise their religion...)
"Korea, Democratic People's Republic of" (for North Korea, one of the least
                             democratic countries on earth).
"Lao People's Democratic Republic" (Laos is another country which redefines
                                      "democratic")
"Libyan Arab Jamahiriya" (they are so Arab, they even kept the word for
                            "republic" in Arabic!)
"Syrian Arab Republic" (they are Arab, but in English they use the English
                          word, as expected).
"Timor Leste" (these wierdos chose a French name when asked for their
                 English name!)

All of this in the spirit of "let the people of each country decide what they
are called".

And even worse, in two cases, ISO chose the name that the country's enemies
call it, rather than the name they call themselves. Consider:

  "Macedonia, Former Yugoslavian Republic of"
(only greece cares for this silly "FYR" ending)

  "Taiwan, Province of China"
("province of china" is probably the last phrasing the Taiwanese would
     have chosen to call themselves...)

They will most likely respond with something along these lines: "to get rid
of all political complaints like yours, we decided to abide by ISO's standard.
If you want to change the list, contact ISO, not us."

This is called, in spoken American, "cover your ass" (CYA, in short).
