I am long-time Linux user and I plan to buy my next computer trying knoppix
on it. Yes, in the shop, together with the technican.
Then leave the knoppix CD as a present.
You will get sure that the computer is Linux compatible, and also, the shop
owner will see very powerful "Vote with your wallet" slogan in action.

Well, Knoppix is a very good test but there's only that much you can
check in a 10min Linux session, inside a PC shop lab [1]. It's wise to
check before hardware purchase using one of the following Linux
Compatibility lists :
