I never heard of this "planet.linux.org.il" which is a good reason for not reading it ;-) But to get more serious for a moment, I don't see why you call this "fragmentation in the community". Would you call the Israeli public "fragmented" because some of us read Maariv and some Yediot (and a dozen other smaller papers)? I say no, because reading a newspaper (or in our case, a mailing list or forum) is only one a part of your overall experience in the community. There are also discussions with your friends (which don't necessarily read the same forum as you do), professional experience (you work on free-software projects with people who read other forums) and of course, people who read several forums. If all this is still true, the community is not really fragmented. Whether we're talking about newspapers or online forums, often every person reads just one source of information, and often he or she chose which source to read (and comment in) because of chance. I prefer linux-il because it was the only Linux discussion place I could find in Israel when I was looking for one, about a decade ago, and simply have no reason to switch to anything else. Some other people prefer other venues - because it speaks their language, because it has nicer graphics, or who knows what. Frankly, I don't see how this planet.linux.org.il solves any fragmentation issue. If I continue with the newspaper analogy, this is simply yet another newspaper, which, frankly, looks to me a bit like a school newspaper ;-) It doesn't reduce fragmentation - it just adds yet another fragment. -- Nadav Har'El | Sunday, Jun 1 2008, 27 Iyyar 5768 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |----------------------------------------- Phone +972-523-790466, ICQ 13349191 |Preserve wildlife -- pickle a squirrel http://nadav.harel.org.il |today! ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
