In effect, you catted all the contents of your hard disk and mailed root
with it? Extremely efficient way to crash a system, I must say.

You got what you asked for - a dump of your root partition. You should
have saved it to a file and used vi / pico to view it rather than mail
root with it.

I ~think~ df doesn't count space in your mailbox, am not sure.

Considering you have multiple (/, /boot etc) partitions (rather than a /
and a swap partition) - I hope you also have a /usr. Try upgrading and see
what happens.
In any case, if you had <note past tense pls> anything on /dev/hda9 it's
gone - as effectively as if you'd applied amrutanjan for a
headache. (poye poche, poyinde, choligaachi, it's gone, gaayab ...)
