hi

But at least I must have either the old data or the data that
overwrote it. But I have neither. And the partition table is intact. So why
only the root partition went for a toss. Why didn't it write to the FAT
partitions that were mounted at the same time and which could quite easily
accomodate my / partition. Why did it get "formatted"? Is this a bug?
As for having a backup, backup of what --the entire hard disk or
the /home and on what a CD(s) or another partition??

Also I have decided to have 2 linuces -one for hacking and one for
working....in principle, at least. Howzzat??

cheers
cheedu
