I now changed it to LC_ALL=POSIX and everything sorts as before. There is
a lesson in this somewhere (for me that is). The next time Linux
Installation asks me for Internationlising variable settings, I'll think
twice before saying "US English". Guys who want a the older sort
beahaviour all the time, would like to put "export LC_ALL=POSIX" somewhere
in their boot scripts.
