I seem to be having a peculiar problem with sendmail. I have stock RHL 6.1
(PCQ).
I had set up my email according to the write up in PCQ and B. Prasad's
HOWTO.
I had made the following changes to sendmail.cf :
DM bom3.vsnl.net.in
DS bom3.vsnl.net.in
o HoldEpensive = True
added e to the MSMTP, MESMTP, MSMTP8, MRELAY lines.
sendmail.cw does not have dnl before Allow_unresolvable_domain
Things were working fine.
I then upgrded Mutt to 1.1.11i. Things were still working fine after adding
set_envelope_from=yes in muttrc.
All of a sudden, from a few days back, I was unable to send mails. The mail
goes upto the sent-mail folder but no further. It does not return with any
error message nor is it found in mqueue.
Yesterday Suresh asked me to make holdexpensive=true but I knew I already
had it =true. Later when I checked, the holdexpensive flag is showing False
and there is no e in the MSMTP, MESMTP etc flags.
I am positive I did not revert these changes. No one else has access to my
computer (I actually lock up the cpu in a special cabinet --- lots of
confidential patient files in there), there are no logins shown in
/var/log/messages when I have not been in the clinic.
There are the following three files in /etc
sendmail.cf April 19
sendmail.cf.old Jan 16
sendmail.cf~ Sep 1
I have made changes to sendmail.cf. These changes are also present in
sendmail.cf.old but sendmail.cf~ is the original unmodified file.
How could sendmail.cf have reverted to it's old unmodified state all by
itself ?????
I am thoroughly in the dark,
